Position Summary:

We seek candidates with a demonstrated ability to offer effective instruction in writing and speaking. The instructor(s) chosen for this position will join the Business Communication Program, a team who work together to teach the core communication course required for all BBA students at the Wisconsin School of Business.

We are looking for a commitment to collaboration, student-centered learning, and research-based curriculum design and development. We value listening, communication, and teamwork skills. Well-qualified candidates will have experience in collaborative course development, inclusive design, and/or developing assignments and activities that help students meet stated learning outcomes. Expertise in business-specific communication and successful work in administrative or non-university settings would be an advantage.

The primary mission of our program is to prepare business students to communicate effectively in the contemporary workplace. Course content is grounded in discourse community theory and incorporates writing practice with business conventions and genres. The team writes, revises, and votes on all core materials, major assignments, and evaluation criteria. At the end of the term, we all participate in the blind grading of students? final portfolios. Class sessions are built upon student engagement and small group work with an emphasis on writing, workshop/peer review, and presentations.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Masters degree in Composition & Rhetoric, English, Professional/Technical Writing, Communication; PhD preferred

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Minimum 3 years teaching writing and/or communications to adult learners (including undergraduate, graduate, or programming) required. Preferred areas of expertise include writing, public speaking, communications, and English as a Foreign Language. Highly preferred areas include experience teaching business genres or teaching in a business/professional school.
