Job Description

LECTURER, Chemical Engineering (ChemE), to coordinate with faculty to add to the flexibility of teaching and scheduling in the department by participating in teaching core undergraduate courses and introductory and advanced laboratory courses.  Will provide lab support, engage new teaching and experiential learning methods, champion the evolving maker community at MIT, and engage in undergraduate recruitment and community building.  Responsibilities include participating in teaching primary core undergraduate courses (possibly including 10.10, 10.213, 10.301, 10.302, 10.32, 10.37, or 10.490), advanced lab courses (e.g., 10.26/27/29) or introductory hands-on classes (e.g., 10.00), and possibly elective courses; engaging new teaching and learning methods; working with students to evaluate their laboratory experience and to propose improvements in line with their concerns; maintaining office hours for student support outside of laboratory and classroom hours; and performing other duties as requested.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  Ph.D. in chemical engineering; upper-level training in chemical engineering; broad knowledge base in core areas of chemical engineering; excellent teaching skills at the undergraduate level and ability to lecture introductory and intermediate chemical engineering courses such as heat, mass and energy balances or chemical engineering thermodynamics and maintain a laboratory focus relevant to introductory or upper-level design labs; strong laboratory skills related to basic chemistry, chemical and biochemical engineering, and bioreactors for pharmaceutical, energy, and other current chemical engineering applications; proficiency with instrumentation and software used for laboratory data analysis and content delivery; strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills; and ability to independently write laboratory instructional material, facilitate the safe exploration of lab concepts by undergraduate students, and work in a team-based environment.  Job #24006
