What you'll do in this position:
The Assistant Administration Vice President, Human Resource Services reports to the Administration Vice President & CFO. This position is responsible for all human resource programs and operations for 2,700 full-time staff and administrative,1,300 part-time, and 15,000 student employees. It is also responsible for benefits administration and related HR support for 2,700 faculty members. This position provides strategic vision and leadership for human resources at BYU.
This is a key position in the administrative structure of the University. The applicant must not only be technically skilled regarding workforce laws and regulations but have experience with human resource issues such as employee engagement, career development and performance management. The position requires extensive interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to navigate sensitive political situations.
Major Accountabilities:
This position supervises the work of 40 full-time, 10 part-time and 40 student employees in the following functions:
- Compensation.
- Benefits.
- Staff and Administrative Employment.
- Student Employment.
- Human Resource Development.
- Wellness.
- Employee Relations.
- Equal Employment Opportunity.
- Ecclesiastical Clearance and Background Checks.
- Employee Engagement.
- Human Resource Consultants/Business Partners.
Other Responsibilities:
- Annual performance development plan administration.
- Performance awards.
- Employee recognition programs.
- Leadership and professional development training.
- Online training development.
- Administration of university salary budget.
Assignments:
- Human Resource Committee Member.
- Deseret Mutual Benefit Administrator, Benefits Advisory Committee Member.
- Administrative Advisory Committee Advisor.
- Office Professionals Advisory Committee Advisor.
What qualifies you for this role:
Required:
- A firm commitment and alignment to the mission of BYU.
- Bachelor's degree in business or related field.
- 10+ years of progressively responsible HR work experience including many years of experience in a HR managerial role.
Preferred:
- Master's degree in human resources or a related field.
- Executive or senior leadership experience.
- 15+ years of HR experience in a large organization or a higher-education setting.

- High degree of confidentiality and sensitivity in dealing with employees, managers, and vice presidents.
- A strong knowledge base in federal and state human resource laws and legal processes.
