Looking to hire a temporary employee for the summer to cover the following duties:

This position will assist staff in the Biosafety Section of EH&S. The Biosafety Section provides useful tools and applications to aid faculty and staff in their efforts to reduce or eliminate exposure of laboratory workers, other persons, and the outside environment to potentially hazardous biological agents handled in research, teaching, or diagnostic laboratories.

Biosafety Intern (Summer)Work Schedule
8:00am - 5:00p , M-F (not to exceed 29 hours in a week)Other Work/Responsibilities
- Conduct surveys of equipment and safety materials in support of BSL-1 and BSL-2 laboratories on campus. This may include entering laboratories and conducting vendor searches on the MarketPlace.
- Assist with laboratory safety audits in BSL-1 and BSL-2 laboratories.
- Attend safety committee meetings and assist with minutes.
- Review and format safety SOPs and safety manuals in support of BSL-1, BSL-2, and
- BSL-3 laboratories including animal, plant, and arthropod containment.
- Review and update website materials to communicate accurate information to the campus community
- Help develop training materials to advance biosafety training initiatives on campus.
- Research and benchmark biosafety practices at peer institutions.
- Accurately document findings in a timely manner.
Minimum Experience/Education
- High school diploma or equivalency
- Must be at least 18 years old
Department Required Skills
- The ability to communicate effectively, work cooperatively with other team members and the desire to perform quality work. Basic knowledge and understanding of fundamentals of the laboratory local exhaust system and standard test methods. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to carry equipment over 20 lbs.
