Job Description:

The Payroll Manager is responsible for handling all payroll functions, from processing payroll and managing payroll systems to addressing payroll inquiries and ensuring compliance with payroll regulations. In this dynamic role, the Payroll Manager collaborates closely with the Controller and the HR Department to execute accurate and efficient payroll processes. By maintaining meticulous records and continuously optimizing payroll procedures, the Payroll Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring timely and precise employee payments. This is a full-time, exempt position scheduled from Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm.

Responsibilities:

  • Compiles payroll data from time sheets and other records to enter in ADP for payroll processing
  • Enters data into computer files, computes wages and deductions and posts to payroll records
  • Reviews wages computed and completed payroll; corrects errors to ensure accuracy of payroll
  • Records changes affecting net wages such as exemptions, insurance coverage, and loan payments for each employee to update master payroll records
  • Submit 403b contributions as well as employee matching in a timely manner to multiple companies for each payroll
  • Prepare annual Worker’s Compensation Audit
  • Prepares periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions
  • Interprets college policies and government regulations affecting payroll procedures
  • Reviews preparation of government reports (e.g., NYS45, 941 and W2 forms)
  • Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency
  • Maintains time and attendance records
  • Ability to do reconciliation to ensure accuracy for the weekly, bi-weekly, and semi-monthly payroll
  • Prepares and issues paychecks
  • Liaison with Human Resources Department and Accounts Payable

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, Accounting or Business degree preferred
  • 3 - 5 years of related experience working with multiple payroll schedules
  • Experience processing payroll in ADP or other similar automated payroll software required
  • Familiarity with PunchTime or other timekeeping system is a plus
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail and follow up protocols are required
  • Knowledge of Google Suite and Microsoft office is required
  • Candidates should have an interest in higher education - a work environment which demands flexibility, encourages creativity and collegiality while emphasizing accountability for meeting goals
  • Ability to work late nights when necessary
