Event Manager

Job Description

EVENT MANAGER, Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE), to create, develop, and execute strategies for effective event content and delivery of high-profile events (5-30 per academic year on average).  Will lead all on- and off-campus events (e.g., lectures, reunions, retreats, graduations, conferences, workshops, parties, seminars, etc.) that reach wide and varied audiences within and beyond MIT.  Responsibilities include leading the planning and execution of events; participating on cross-functional project teams and proactively engaging in continuous improvement of program operations; serving as technical and logistical resource for events and primary point of contact for speakers/participants; liaising with stakeholders and ensuring customer satisfaction; nurturing and building relationships with vendors, venues, and other industry contacts; managing events budgets, expenses, and reimbursements; working with the MIT Events Office to register events and ensure guidelines are followed; keeping up with recurring event invitation lists and updates, working with relevant colleagues to create invite lists; working with DMSE communications officer to convey publicity plan and prepare marketing and event collateral; evaluating, recommending, and implementing operational changes and enhancements for future programs; assuring timely publishing and distribution of event information/materials; and remaining current with event planning trends.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree; three years’ event/program/project management experience; ability to provide excellent customer service, build relationships, multitask, and work effectively and independently in a pressured work environment; excellent organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving, and oral and written communication and presentation skills; self-motivation; initiative; flexibility; good judgment and tact; proficiency with MS Office, database maintenance, scheduling and file sharing tools, and communication software in a remote setting; and ability to identify and learn new programs/software as needed.  PREFERRED: CMP certification.  Job #23940-7

This position includes working evenings and weekends, allowing for a flexible schedule (hybrid when possible).
