Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Technology Support Specialist under general supervision installs, maintains, and repairs desktop computer hardware, software, and peripheral equipment. Performs routine computer maintenance and basic internet and network operations.
 
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Install and set up computer hardware and software, including computer networks.
  2. Assist faculty, staff, and students with Wi-Fi connectivity.
  3. Diagnose, analyze, and resolve end-user software and hardware problems.
  4. Consult with, advise, and assist authorized college personnel in resolving technical problems with college computers. Support can be provided in person, over the phone, or remotely.
  5. Provides specialized support with specific purpose computer technologies, such as the Student lD System.
  6. Install and/or update required hardware and software and recommend computer products or equipment to improve college productivity.
  7. Evaluate system compatibility by testing new hardware and/or software programs with existing systems.
  8. Works with other departments in resolving computer hardware malfunctions as required.
  9. Provide information, assist, and/or suggestions concerning desktop configuration and installation, as well as network access connectivity.
  10. Provide information, assistance, and/or suggestions concerning desktop configuration and installation, as well as network access connectivity to departments managing computer labs.
  11. Ensure equipment in computer labs and classrooms are in appropriate working order.
  12. Perform maintenance, upgrades, and repairs on computer hardware, software, and peripherals in computer labs and classrooms as needed.
  13. Follows departmental procedures in documenting, facilitating, and carrying out service/repair calls from college personnel.
  14. Coordinate and perform maintenance and repair on equipment, peripherals, and components and maintain contact with appropriate vendors to coordinate repairs.
  15. Assists with developing work plans and time schedules for projects including outlining phases, and computing equipment requirements.
  16. Performs job responsibilities at both the Main and South campuses as scheduled by immediate supervisor.

Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:

  • Associates degree in Computer Information Systems  or related field with emphasis in desktop PC applications.
  • Two year of related experience.
 
Preferred:
  • Comptia A+ Certification

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Desktop Operating systems especially Windows. 
  • Experience in the use of personal computer software programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel. 
  • Knowledge of current trends and issues in computer technology. 
  • Ability to install and troubleshoot hardware and software.
  •  Experience working in a network environment.
  • Familiarity with server operating systems. 
  • Strong communication skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.  
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
