Zeis Textile Extension Education for Economic Impact (ZTE) is the extension arm of the College of Textiles. ZTE is dedicated to making a profound impact on economic success in North Carolina and the nation. ZTE economic impact is reported by ZTE customers as between $20 and $50 million over the last four years. ZTE has a clear mission to be a leading provider of professional education and laboratory prototyping and small lot manufacturing through the following services:
The NC State Lean Six Sigma program provides industrial and business organizations with a proven methodology to significantly reduce costs and increase productivity. ZTE offers training and certification for Green Belts, Black Belts and Master Black Belts through open enrollment courses, customized on-site training and advanced quality training courses.
The Textiles program offers courses for all aspects of textile processing, covering topics from fibers to finished fabrics. This program encompasses a unique combination of on-campus workshops, online education and customized training courses.
TexLabs is part of the manufacturing facility at the College of Textiles and is a crossroads for industry and academia. In addition to providing outstanding laboratory educational experiences to students of NC State, TexLabs maintains a focus on economic impact by delivering services to a wide range of customers from single person entrepreneurs to large international corporations through prototyping and small lot manufacturing. TexLabs also contributes significantly to textile professional education courses through hands-on training in fiber science, knitting, weaving, fabric finishing and physical testing.
With a combination of technical course offerings, performance improvement training, integrated laboratory environments and knowledgeable, experienced faculty and staff, ZTE offers a variety of options to meet the professional education needs of the community while making a significant economic impact in NC and beyond.

Essential Job Duties
The Spinning Lab Manager will manage and supervise all aspects of the spinning laboratory at the College of Textiles including:
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment,
- Engage with potential customers to build business and grow Rieter laboratory revenues,
- Prepare Fabrication Service Agreement (FSA) estimates, writing FSAs,
- Coordinate and complete all work associated with the FSA,
- Invoice for work performed through the business office, and
- Be an expert resource for all aspects related to the conversion of fiber to yarn
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree and two years of general research experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Other Required Qualifications
Extensive knowledge of spinning processing, equipment and machine maintenance.
Demonstrated ability to:
- Maintain a safe work environment in the Rieter spinning laboratory including an up to date laboratory safety plan,
- Engage with potential customers to build business and grow Rieter laboratory revenues,
- Properly estimate, create and negotiate a Fabrication Services Agreement (FSA),
- Carry out all fabrications services related to manufacturing spun yarns,
- Maintain and service all yarn manufacturing equipment,
- Solicit quotes for new equipment,
- Assist with / instruct academic classes in the Rieter spinning laboratory.
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive experience in fiber to yarn conversion, especially a mix of industry and academic institution experience.
