About the Department

Talent Acquisition and Employment within NC State University Human Resources is comprised of four teams: Talent Acquisition, International Employment, Executive Search Services (ESS), and University Temporary Services (NC State and UNC-Chapel Hill offices). Collectively, we are responsible for ensuring that NC State is able to effectively recruit, hire, and employ a talented workforce to support the advancement of NC State University’s mission, vision, goals, and strategic initiatives.

The Talent Acquisition and Employment team is responsible for administering, overseeing, and managing effective recruitment and employment programs for faculty, staff, and temporary employees. We provide services and consultation to campus & community customers involved in the recruitment & selection processes, affecting approximately 4,000 staff (SHRA) and 4000 faculty & professional (EHRA) positions; provide technical & strategic/targeted recruitment for vacancies in order to attract, retain, and develop a workforce that will effectively carry out the University’s mission; recruit for approximately 1500 vacancies annually; ensure compliance with University, State, and Federal regulations; and promote the University as an employer of choice.

Essential Job Duties

The Recruiter position reports to the Talent Acquisition Manager and partners with Talent Acquisition consultants to guide hiring managers through the recruitment process ensuring that candidate pools at NC State include a sufficient volume of well-qualified candidates. 

In this role you will seek out (source), engage, and recruit talent for a wide variety of NC State career opportunities across staff, faculty and administrator roles. Your partnership with campus stakeholders will help identify current and future workforce talent needs for hard-to-fill and high priority vacancies including where the applicant pool is limited due to unique skill sets needed for the position. Additionally, you will get the opportunity to locate talent through specialized recruiting techniques. 

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
  • Leverage traditional as well as innovative/creative techniques to find and recruit talent to NC State, using a wide-variety of tools, technologies, and strategies to efficiently source viable prospects for assigned positions/occupations/recruitments.
  • Thoroughly screen and assess potential candidates for critical/essential skills and competencies, as well as overall suitability for role and alignment with NC State mission, vision, and values.
  • Communicate consistently with candidates and internal stakeholders regarding challenges, opportunities, and important updates; appropriately managing expectations throughout the process.
  • Build, cultivate, and nurture relationships with professional networks, area employment agencies, colleges/universities, industry associations, etc. in order to establish and sustain talent pipelines for anticipated talent needs of the university.
  • Maintain and regularly prioritize a portfolio of active recruitments in order to meet business needs and customer demands, and sustain viability of recruitments.
  • Promote a positive image of NC State University as an employer of choice including representing NC State at networking events, career fairs, and other public events.
  • Develop talent pipelines, pools, and recruiting reports as needed.

Other Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate, and deploy new tools, technologies, and strategies to enhance NC State’s recruitment capacity.
  • May coordinate search logistics such as timelines and interviews by coordinating schedules; escorting applicants to interviews; arranging auxiliary recruitment related services (e.g. community tours, etc.).
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience

Graduation from a four-year college or university and two years of progressively responsible experience analyzing, interpreting, applying, communicating and promoting HR best practices in the context of organizational goals and objectives; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.

  • Comprehensive understanding of recruiting and employment principles, theories and concepts and knowledge of both traditional and contemporary practices and techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of tools, resources, and strategies to identify and engage prospective candidates
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately screen/assess candidates for key skills and competencies across a variety of occupations
  • Demonstrated track record of reliability, professionalism, integrity, and good judgment
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to overcome challenges in the recruitment process to drive successful recruitments
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey complex messages and concepts clearly and completely to a variety of stakeholders and audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and cultivate trust and rapport with our university community and prospects/applicants
  • Ability to thrive in a high-demand / high-volume service delivery model with the ability to regularly re-prioritize work to best address customer/client needs
  • Proficiency in standard office software and ability to learn new and emerging software
  • Strong customer service, influencing, and negotiation skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and utilizing creative/innovative recruitment techniques
  • Relevant professional certification(s) such as CIR, ACIR, CDR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, CSMR, CSSR, etc.
