The UNC Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies mission is to conduct, coordinate and promote basic and clinical research on the causes, prevention and treatment of alcoholism and alcoholic diseases. Research in the Center is extremely strong in the areas of drinking and relapse behavior, molecular adaptations to alcohol that underlie tolerance, dependence and protracted withdrawal, alcohol cell signaling, and alcohol toxicology across the lifespan. The Center has international leaders in the study of ion channel regulation, protein kinases, neurodegeneration, fetal teratogenesis, genetics and behavioral pharmacology.

Position Summary
We are seeking an energetic and highly motivated Postdoctoral Trainee to conduct experiments involving but not limited to: cellular and molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, central and peripheral immune and cell biological signaling pathway analysis, brain cell isolation and cell culture models, mouse behavior models, alcohol exposure models on alterations in brain development, aging, and behavior.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
PhD in related field required at time of appointment.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The Postdoctoral Trainee must be proficient in: common molecular biology techniques, alcohol research and neuroimmune signaling analysis. Demonstration of proficiency in these techniques through peer-reviewed publications is essential.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Our preferred candidate has experience in the following:
  • The intersections between alcohol, neuroimmune activation as well as behavior.
  • A variety of preclinical models for conditions such as aging and systemic inflammation.
  • Cognitive behavioral models.
