Summary of Position

The Data Center Operations Technician is part of the Research Computing team for Enterprise Technology And Services (ET&S). This position will administer the USNH IT Data Centers that provide secure, monitored and conditioned environments for the UNH/USNH community. In addition, administer applications that support Data Center activities and other related applications. This is an in-person position.

Other minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and four years of experience in information technology field, Associate’s and six years, or combination of education and experience equal to eight years.
  • A knowledge of Data Centers and their required systems – HVAC, UPS, and alarms, is needed.
  • System administration skills are also needed Position requires ability to work well in a team environment and solid communication skills.
  • Position requires physical installation/deinstallation of servers, racks, network equipment and cabling.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional qualifications include experience with VMware, operating systems such as Windows and Linux.
  • Experience with hardware is preferred.
  • Experience with network switch configuration is preferred.

Duty/Responsibility

Data Center administration: 
  • Maintain infrastructure including Generator, HVAC, UPS, power management, cabling and protection systems
  • Install and maintain computer hardware and work with other admins to install hardware
  • Develop and maintain documentation for installation and support of Data Center services.
  • Maintain hardware contracts and all document management for service events, etc.

Duty/Responsibility

System Administration:
  • Provide Infrastructure application support, including upgrades, problem resolution and support of new technology developments
  • Communicate effectively the need, design and implementation for technical hardware and software solutions.
  • Work with vendors to insure successful integration of new software and tools.
  • Provide operating and application administration as needed.
  • Document all system administration tasks as needed
  • Work effectively with system administration group to select, design, propose, and purchase effective hardware and software solutions.

Duty/Responsibility

  • Provide Evening and Weekend coverage for major upgrades or outages.
  • Other duties as assigned.
