Associate Professor, Nursing BSN (RN-BSN)
Hiring Range: $63,359.44 - $77,086.44
12 Month Faculty Position

The BSN faculty member is responsible for educating and preparing future nurse leaders by providing instruction and participating in service activities within the BSN program. They play a critical role in shaping the next generation of nursing professionals.
Reporting to the Director of Nursing, the incumbent will teach discipline-specific courses as needed using a variety of methodologies. Responsibilities will include course preparation and asynchronous online instruction; curriculum development; participation in the college community and continued professional growth activities, and creative program building based on needs assessment and collaboration with other faculty. May be asked to teach other courses in disciplines in which she/he is able to be credentialed.

Responsibilities:
  • Curriculum Development: Participate in the development, implementation, evaluation, and updating of the curriculum, lesson plans, and course materials for BSN courses. This involves designing courses, selecting textbooks or open educational resources (OER), and ensuring that the curriculum aligns with accreditation standards and the latest evidence-based practices.
  • Classroom/Online Instruction: Delivering lectures, leading discussions, facilitating learning, and providing regular and substantive interaction according to the College’s core values. Foster a positive, professional, safe, and inclusive learning environment that supports student growth and development. RN-BSN faculty must create engaging and effective learning experiences for students.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Designing and implementing assessment methods to evaluate students' progress and competence. Assess student performance, provide timely feedback, and assign grades within the expected timeframe. Maintain student records and documentation. Evaluating the effectiveness of the nursing program by assessing student outcomes, program goals, and accreditation standards. This involves collecting data and making improvements as necessary.
  • Advising and Mentoring: Provide academic and career advising to BSN students. Mentor and guide students in their academic and professional development. Collaborate with College staff to recruit and retain students. Mentor and supervise undergraduate student service-learning projects.
  • Service: Participate in departmental and college committees and activities. Engage in community outreach, service learning, or clinical partnerships. Contribute to the development of the BSN program and its continuous improvement.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with nursing practice, trends, and educational methodologies. Pursue opportunities for professional development, such as attending conferences and workshops.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the quality and consistency of the BSN program. Work with other healthcare professionals and organizations to enhance the educational experience for students. Work with internal customers, including student services staff, adjunct faculty, and other College staff, to provide students with consistent, effective learning and support.
  • Compliance and Accreditation: Stay informed about and ensure compliance with accreditation (ACEN) and regulatory standards relevant to nursing education. Assist in the preparation of reports and documentation required for program accreditation.
  • This position requires excellent oral, written, and electronic communication. The incumbent will need to foster collegial relationships intra and interdepartmentally and model professional behaviors, including involvement with/in professional organizations and engagement in lifelong learning.

The general expectation is that full-time faculty will serve as provisional faculty for a period of three years prior to being reviewed for continuing status. The determination of faculty status is, however, ultimately at the discretion of the Yavapai College District Governing Board and the College President, as the Board's designee.

 

Minimum Expectations & Requirements

 

  • Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited institution.
  • Current unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Arizona or multi-state privilege to practice in AZ: Arizona State Board of Nursing (per AZ Administrative Code: Chapter 19).
  • Two (2) years of full-time work experience as a professional nurse providing direct patient care.
  • Leadership and team management abilities.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with the MS Office Suite, the Internet, and email. Ability and willingness to learn new technologies. Experience with online learning platforms and student management systems.
  • Experience with multi-media technology to enhance student learning.
  • Experience with online instruction.

 

Preferred Skills & Abilities

 

  • Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) is preferred.
  • Master’s Degree in Nurse Education preferred.
  • Work experience in a community college/higher education work environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to convey ideas and concepts in a professional and civil manner. Ability to adjust to variance in communication and learning styles of students. Ability and willingness to communicate regularly with students and other internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations by promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that is respectful and accepting of diversity.
  • Ability to understand and promote the educational philosophy and programs that Yavapai College offers. Willingness to grow and evolve with the College's educational philosophy.
  • Experience working and participating in a team environment and collaborating with other individuals and teams to meet student needs. Willingness to help students and team members grow and learn.
  • Ability and willingness to continuously learn and accept constructive feedback.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Must be able to manage time and schedule effectively.
