Job Summary

Support professional growth of Midland College faculty & staff through logistical support for the premier programming Teaching & Learning Center. Help us get ready for events and join us to ensure everything goes smoothly (including food, which you are able to partake in). Keep us organized and tidy. Help us build relationships across campus through a positive attitude.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a currently enrolled student and registered for classes
  • Must meet all Work Study eligibility requirements through the Financial Aid Office
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to work with minimal direct supervision and use good judgement
  • Experience in hospitality or event management with an ability to exceed guest expectations
  • An eye for design and aesthetics to create flourishes that stand out as premier
  • Professional demeanor and ability to interact with employees at all levels

Essential Functions

  • Assist with event logistics, including:
    • Involvement in planning
    • Maintaining invitations, registration lists, and tracking participation
    • Setting up tables, chairs, podiums, and other furniture
    • Assisting with setting up computers, televisions, projectors, and other technology
    • Ordering and/or putting out food
    • Ensuring our execution is premier-level and that all guest needs are met
    • Cleaning up post-event
  • General office duties
    • Greeting visitors with a smile, in person or on the phone
    • Monitoring our shared email mailbox for new messages and responding as appropriate
    • Ensuring our office space has a top-notch appearance and all supplies/materials are organized in a logical manner
    • Perform clerical and creative tasks on a computer

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • The person in this position needs to move to other locations on campus occasionally
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
  • Use of manual dexterity
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Occasionally moves chairs or other movable furniture to set up for events
  • Duties indoors and some outdoors
  • Ability to work extended hours and attend Midland College or community events

Security Sensitivity

All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. An employment offer is contingent on completion of a satisfactory criminal background investigation.
