Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Sustainability Coordinator will develop and manage programs that engage students, faculty, and staff in campus sustainability initiatives to further a culture of sustainability among all sectors of the diverse campus community. The Sustainability Coordinator will support Office of Sustainability initiatives including the collection, analysis and reporting of sustainability related data both internally and to external rating organizations; participate in the management of existing programs, conduct research into new program areas, develop program proposals, and implement new initiatives. The Coordinator will also work with the professional staff to support the sustainability programs of other campus departments, workgroups and councils; as well as collaborative projects involving multiple campus units and students.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. 

Experience: 
  • At least two years of experience in carrying out sustainability programs within a major organization. This includes the development, implementation and assessment of sustainability programming, preparation of sustainability communications; and presentation of sustainability topics. 
  • Experience in the collection, analysis and reporting of sustainability data.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong communication skills including excellent writing skills and the ability to speak and present to small groups of people.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and experience with, methods, practices and procedures associated with sustainability.
  • Proficient in the use of computer software programs and basic Microsoft Office products including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, working with diverse groups of individuals and building partnerships.
  • Ability to work independently, to be a team leader and to be a team member. Ability to supervise and direct student interns.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and to work with shifting priorities and schedules.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Management, Physical Sciences, Engineering, Mathematics, Business or related field. Master’s or other advanced degree in the above areas or related field.
  • Academic experience specific to sustainability.
  • Experience working on sustainability programs for a large research university. Knowledge and experience in the use of Tableau and/or other data visualization software.
  • Development and/or implementation of environmental and/or sustainability programs, behavior-change programs, environmental planning or policy, or related area.
  • Experience writing and editing sustainability related communications including newsletters, and other materials.
  • Experience working as a member of a professional sustainability office.
