Position Summary

The instructor is responsible for the planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities. The instructor is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend on any Northwest Shoals Community College campus as assigned. As a minimum, the related activities include instruction, academic advising, serving on various committees, participating in local, state, regional, or national professional activities and/or organizations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

At a minimum, the essential functions of the instructor are:


  • to meet the essential functions/health requirements of the clinical agencies;
  • to plan, organize, and instruct courses; to keep students informed about their progress through the prompt grading of exams and assignments;
  • to participate consistently in professional development related to his/her field;
  • to recommend textbooks and other instructional materials including classroom and laboratory equipment to the Department Head;
  • to work closely with his/her Department Head on the development of annual division budgets for approval by the Dean;
  • to conduct class evaluations and complete other college evaluations in accordance with college policy;
  • to assist with registration;
  • to serve as an academic advisor to assigned students;
  • to post and maintain office hours for student consultations;
  • to ensure that assigned classes are held as scheduled;
  • to file an appropriate course syllabus or course outline with the appropriate division chair for each course taught;
  • to teach all classes according to an approved syllabus; to keep students informed concerning course content, requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements;
  • to plan each unit or lesson, as to content, method, and organization, to make each class period meaningful;
  • to hold final exams at the time scheduled in the college’s Semester Schedule, unless permission to deviate has been approved by the Department Head and Dean;
  • to submit required reports to the appropriate administrative personnel;
  • to attend faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development and orientation activities, and other meetings as required by the President, Dean, Division Chair or Department Head;
  • to accommodate differing student learning styles in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the College’s established ADA program;
  • to incorporate instructional technologies in instructional delivery;
  • to become familiar with and comply with college policies and procedures;
  • to serve on and provide information to college committees as needed;
  • to convey college-related information to students in a timely manner as requested by college officials;
  • to participate in program and curriculum review and development;
  • to maintain accurate and complete scholastic records.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Master of Science in Nursing degree from an accredited institution, required.
  • Current Unencumbered Alabama or Multi-State licensure as a Registered Nurse, required.
  • Three (3) years of clinical experience , required.
  • Applicants must have documented ability to prepare for and deliver quality college-level instruction preferably using a multimedia format.*

  • Note: If you are awarded an interview, during the interview you will be required to do a live teaching demonstration using technology in front of a panel search committee. You must bring your own presentation material to the interview.

SALARY: Compensation is in accordance with the Alabama Community College System’s Salary Schedule D1 ($45,676 - $92,513 for 9-month appointment). An additional summer appointment may be available.
