Position Purpose

The Category Manager is the business owner of their assigned categories for the online Petco digital properties. The role is a critical component to align to the overall category strategy put forth by the retail merchandising partner, developing initiatives for online channels and managing the execution of events including launching new merchandise, optimizing navigation and search and enabling a superior digital customer experience for Petco desktop, mobile and tablet customers.

Scope

This position must demonstrate management-level foresight and be able to propose decisions within the framework of strategic initiatives and tactical imperatives. The incumbent may lead a small staff of less experienced, professional and support-level eCommerce associates. This position will also provide leadership to a cross functional teams over which it has no administrative authority. The incumbent is expected to lead this team through the successful development and execution of financial models, strategic plans and tactical imperatives to support the business plan for assigned categories and overall digital stores. The incumbent thrives in a fast-paced environment, is eager to learn and adjust strategies based on customer behaviors and possesses the ability to leverage strong analytics and financial skills to drive measureable business results. The ideal candidate would have multi-channel retail experience and excel at leading a team to translate merchandising and marketing objectives into highly effective site placement and consumer promotion strategies.

Essential Job Functions

The incumbent must be able to perform all of the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Responsible for online sales and profitability for assigned categories which align with retail merchandising partners overall strategies for eCommerce and total enterprise goals. Demonstrating a passion and leadership competency for data-driven decision making for site placement and promotional planning, executing and optimizing website content to deliver on marketing and merchandising business objectives Accountable for ownership and delivery of weekly site-wide and category plans including product placement and promotional approach; analyzing site/category offers to determine effectiveness and opportunity Implement strategies which focus on key online channel conversion drives, optimal site presentation and drives multi-channel efforts. Responsibilities include but are not limited to optimizing conversion at page and category levels, site placement, product content, site search and navigation. Create and nurture a "shared-vision" environment of collaboration, partnership and open discussion with direct reports and other Petco team members and stakeholders, both internal and external, that establishes and communicates clear and realistic goals, objectives and functional roles and are aligned with the category(s) strategic plan; use objective means to monitor progress toward those goals; effectively coordinate team members in order to meet timelines. Conduct research on products, merchandise, customer trends and market factors, utilizing the category review process and online analytic tools to identify key factors affecting the performance of assigned category(s); Collaborate with cross-functional teams in creating, developing and implementing financial models which manage assortment analysis and planning, product mix, pricing and, gross margin. Create and execute online plans and promotions with eCommerce Director which drive and increase traffic, sales and expand profit margins consistent with total eCommerce goals. Analyze sales and site funnel data to determine customer engagement by category, online channel and page level information. Have a deep knowledge of ecommerce best practices including competitive strategies, marketing, usability testing and industry trends. Ensure all activities comply and are conducted in accordance with international, federal, state and local laws, regulations and ordinances; remain cognizant of planned/proposed changes to same. Interact professionally and effectively through verbal and written communication with all professional contacts with emphasis on company interests. Perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required, assigned and directed.

The pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different in other locations.

$119,300.00 - $178,900.00
