The Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources at North Carolina State University invites applicants for two full-time Postdoctoral Research Scholar positions within the Forest Biotechnology Group (FBG). The successful candidates are expected to provide high-level research support for projects and experiments that explore:
- Design and conduct research experiments in the area of 1) CRISPR genome editing and novel genetic engineering of forest trees, 2) innovations in delivery and regeneration technologies in
tree tissue culture, 3) molecular, biochemical and genomic analyses of tree metabolism, and 4) engineering of trees with improved phenotypic traits for productivity, adaptation, and
resilience. - Analyze experimental results, draw conclusions, and prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed scientific journals. Work with reviewers, editors and co-authors until manuscripts are accepted and published.
- Work closely with faculty to design experiments and write grant proposals to obtain funding to support research projects, in collaboration with faculty in the Department of Forestry &
Environmental Resources and beyond.
Additional duties of the Postdoctoral Research Scholar include, but are not limited to the following:
- Coordinate and conduct multiple, concurrent assignments, including the development of independent research objectives.
- Assist in training and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students working in the Forest Biotechnology Laboratory, including supervision of research projects as well as oversight of routine laboratory tasks. Travel to attend meetings with professional colleagues and present results, as well as meetings with stakeholders to learn their perspectives and needs.
Other Work/Responsibilities
- Laboratory and greenhouse maintenance and cleanup, organize and participate in laboratory progress meetings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

- Ability to develop, design, or execute fundamental research activities for single or multiple research project(s)
- Ability to participate in formulating research methods and suggesting options for improving quality and recommending solutions.
- Ability to manage day-to-day lab operations.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Relevant Ph.D. degree in biotechnology, genomics and genetics, molecular biology, or tissue culture.
