Job Function

With a focus on promoting a positive client-centered Human Resources division and organizational culture, the HR (Human Resources) Specialist will independently coordinate, plan and prioritize tasks according to time constraints and deadlines. Demonstrates initiative to respond and make operating decisions based on knowledge of college and department service model, policies, and personnel. Responsible for several activities involving coordination of effort between several parties at all levels. Must function in a professional and collaborative manner 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Implement end-to-end hiring processes to ensure a positive experience for candidates and hiring departments
  • Aids in supporting client needs and requests in employment/classification.  
  • Provide support in the revision, development and implementation of HR procedures 
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively at a professional level with others in areas both directly and indirectly related to college business 
  • Participates in collective bargaining with various bargaining units. 
  • Serves as an advisor for the negotiation team. 
  • Become versed in assigned bargaining unit contracts and provide HR policy, procedure and collective bargaining agreement guidance, 
  • Regularly involved in implementation of assigned bargaining unit contracts; participates in strategy sessions involving implementation of changes to bargaining unit contracts
  • Participates in strategy sessions involving implementation of new software systems, processes and procedures
  • Coordinate and process the online tracking system applications, including submitting change/update requests to the system, adding and removing users and departments, change and updating passwords
  • Collect, organize and maintain personal files and records of all materials used for recruitment and employment, including but not limited to candidate applications, credentials, committee interview notes and related documentation
  • Responsible for the creation/ revision of job descriptions 
  • Assist with job analysis for positions to make recommendations and or increase salaries
  • Assist with the compensation review and analysis of positions as assigned. 
  • Assist with assessment testing for employee evaluation and training purposes. 
  • Serve as a trainer for the HR talent management software and user modules which include but are not limited to applicant tracking modules, training and learning systems and performance management systems
  • Assist with and or deliver Human resources employee training and or workshops as assigned.   
  • Process payroll and leave bank information for assigned employee groups. 
  • Coordinate employment activities for assigned bargaining units; resolves problems or completes activities based on knowledge of bargaining unit contracts, College organization, policies and personnel
  • Regularly determines actions to be taken according to standard HR policies and procedures; carries out the work of the area without specific direction including following up on assigned items without reminders from supervisors
  • Participates in strategy sessions related to orientation and training processes created and implemented by HR. Participates in the actual training/orientations as assigned.
  • Will be expected to learn software, operations and activities of the Office of Human Resources Office and of the College, as needed
  • Will be expected to process employee information and payroll with a high level accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Deal appropriately with confidential materials and issues related to Board of Trustees, personnel and labor negotiations.
  • Will be expected to use Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel and Outlook. Additionally, will be expected to know or learn and use other software packages utilized within the department such Ellucian and Business Objects
  • Process new hire paperwork, monitoring payroll registers and evaluation forms, compiling reports, serving employees and the public.
  • Will be expected to learn software, operations and activities of the Office of Human Resources Office and of the College, as needed
  • Performs related duties as assigned

 

Education

Associate degree or higher required. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Human Resources, Business Administration, Leadership, or related field is preferred.

Qualifications

One year of experience in a Human Resources environment is required. One year of experience in a higher education/union environment is required
