SHF/EHF Satcom Technician

Position Summary:
As an SHF/EHF Satcom Technician you will provide technical assistance on shipboard SHF/EHF Satellite Communication Systems aboard U.S. Navy ships as a representative of Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC). You will interface with U.S. Navy civilian engineers, program managers and logisticians, and equipment manufacturers. You will receive daily work assignments from the SWRMC Branch Head. Additional duties may include logistics, material, and safety responsibilities.

Clearance Required:
  • Must be US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain an Active Secret Clearance; Candidates currently possessing an Active Secret Clearance are preferred
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical services to the shipboard crews in the operation, inspection, problem identification, troubleshooting and maintenance of the systems and equipment representing SWRMC Engineering Department and other assigned duties.
  • Offer on-board and distance-support technical assistance for various equipment and components on surface ships throughout their operational cycles. Perform corrective actions, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting using blueprints, drawings, and diagrams to resolve equipment operating and performance issues on various ship class platforms on the San Diego waterfront.
  • Strong focus on distance support/troubleshooting and on-site support for the various class ships.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
  • Five (5) years' experience working on one or more of the following SHF systems, their operating software and interfaces, and critical sub-system topology:
    • AN/WSC-9 NMT
    • AN/USC-69 CBSP
    • Star Link
    • AN/WSC-6(V)9 SHF
    • AN/USC-38 (V) 4,9
  • Five (5) years' work related experience working & operating Radio/Mult-iband/Antenna components
  • Navy C Schools related to the specific equipment
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent;
  • Valid US Driver's License
Preferred Education, Skills, and Experience:
  • Experienced in electronic equipment and systems design and testing concepts
  • Highly specialized level of theories, practices, and techniques to include but not be limited to the following cross disciplines: acoustics, electronics, electrical, thermal and piping systems and associated interfaces.
Physical Demands and Expectations:
  • Able to travel 10%.
  • Regular physical activity, including walking, climbing stairs, and standing; frequent periods of prolonged sitting may be required.
  • Ability to work in an industrial shipboard/shipyard environment, climb shipboard ladders and wear all required safety equipment.
  • Able to lift (up to 50lb), carry, and transport heavy equipment and materials required for the job.
  • Able to meet U.S. Navy ship rider requirements.
  • Maneuvering around tight spaces in a shipboard environment
  • Ability to speak, read, hear, and write, with or without assistance.
  • Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax, and other office equipment.
