Daily duties include:
- Assist research scientists with ongoing field projects on local and State water bodies (operation of boats with outboard motors and ability to trailer boat to field site required)
- Daily travel and field work in all weather conditions
- Occasional support of general laboratory-based activities
- Assist with training of undergraduate and graduate students in field sample collection and field operations
Work Schedule:
20-25 hours per week between 9am-6pm M-F, with flexibility as needed depending on field conditions

Minimum Experience/Education
- 4 year degree; or an equivalent combination of training and/or related experience
Department Required Skills
- Working knowledge and proficiency in data gathering and equipment calibration using water quality sondes, light meters, current meters, etc.
- Must be able to operate boats and trailer boats to study sites and work in all types of weather.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Knowledge of basic maintenance of boats, boat motors, trailers and trucks
- Experience with the maintenance of field equipment, calibration of sensors, and detailed log keeping
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
- Experience with wiring diagrams and electronics
- At least two years of appropriate field experience
Required License or Certification
- Valid driver’s license
- State of NC Official Boating Safety Certificate
