Essential Job Duties

The selected candidate will work under the direct guidance of Dr. Michael Nolan (radiation/cancer biologist and veterinary radiation oncologist). Significant mentorship will also be provided by key collaborators: Drs. Santosh Mishra (neurobiologist), and Duncan Lascelles (translational pain researcher and oncologic surgeon).

The scholar will work with other lab members to lead NIH-funded research projects, studying mechanisms of pain, and impacts of pain signaling on tumor progression. The projects involve benchtop cell culture experiments, studies using genetically engineered mouse models, behavioral testing, and potential involvement in co- clinical trials in both humans and animal (pet dogs/cats) with naturally occurring cancer.

Other Work/Responsibilities

The postdoctoral associate will be expected to carry out independent work, make
presentations regarding their research, to publish research results in peer-reviewed journals, to participate in grant proposal preparation, and to interact with other faculty, postdoctoral associates, and graduate students at the University level and across collaborating institutions of the project.

Work Schedule

Full-time: Monday-Friday (approx. 8am to 5pm) with occasional after-hours and/or weekend work. This is an on-site (non-remote) position.

Department Required Skills

  • Experience with basic benchtop molecular biology assays (e.g., qPCR,
  • Western blot, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization)
  • Basic mouse handling skills
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Outstanding organizational skills, and analytical abilities
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines, goal oriented and high level of motivation.
  • Ability to work individually and also as part of a team
  • Strong fine motor skills
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Experience working with murine cancer models
  • Previous grant writing experience
  • Experience with calcium imaging
  • Management of rodent breeding colonies, is desired but not required
