The postdoctoral research scholar in this position will be in charge of conducting laboratory experiments related to creating cellulose-based materials for the uptake of fluids. This will include providing regular updates to the sponsor, drafting scientific communications, and overseeing general laboratory functions.
Other Work/Responsibilities
The successful candidate will also need to work with undergraduate researchers helping them to have a meaningful research experience, while advancing the goals of the project.
Work Schedule
Monday – Friday; 8 am – 5 pmDepartment Required Skills
Must be able to work in laboratory environment including lifting up to 20 pounds, extended time on feet, and conducting experiments requiring manual dexterity. The candidate must also be able to effectively communicate.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Experience or background in the following areas is desired:
- Carbohydrate and polymer chemistry
- Absorbent materials including foams, super-absorbents, or natural liquid absorbents
- An understanding of the mechanisms of liquid uptake and retention
- A history of transition benchtop experiments into the pilot scale
- Track record of publishing in scientific journals
- Ability to adapt written methodologies to create new materials
- Knowledge of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) or techno-economic analysis
- Highly organized with ability to meet deadlines and communicate effectively
Ph.D. in Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related disciplines.
