We are currently seeking an experienced scientist who will foster relationships, advance operations, and facilitate scientific research that leads to breakthroughs in pediatric cancer treatment. 

The Stegmaier lab at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) is co-leading a collaboration with the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and The Broad Institute to accelerate scientific discovery for pediatric cancer. This project is called the Pediatric Cancer Dependency Map Accelerator (PedDep). The individual who fills this role will be critical to the success of this collaboration.  The person will also lead the laboratory operations of the Stegmaier lab together with Dr. Stegmaier.

The candidate will be expected to have a deep understanding of science, preferably with experience in cancer research and/or large genomic projects. They will be adept at developing and maintaining close relationships with key stakeholders within the DFCI and external partners.

This individual will support progression of the scientific work associated with PedDep through active management in partnership with project leaders. They will join an existing operations team composed of representative scientists from St. Jude and the Broad Institute. They will work together to proactively identify and solve roadblocks across institutions/groups, track and monitor budgets, ensure timelines are met, report results and manage progress reports. Finally, this person will ensure that contractual obligations are met.

The responsibilities associated with PedDep include:

• Ensure success of the milestones associated with the PedDep project.
• Integrate activities across complex groups to maximize success of the overall project with a goal of ultimate patient impact.
• Ensure effective governance of the collaboration by engaging all the stakeholders.
• Ensure effective communication between project leadership, both within the DFCI and between DFCI and all partners.
• Manage overall budget and oversee resource allocation across the project in collaboration with the grant office. Work with leadership and principal investigators to track and monitor budgets, develop and meet timelines, and to proactively identify and solve roadblocks.
• Manage the internal relationships within DFCI to oversee the overall project objectives.
• Works closely with the legal team to ensure contractual obligations are met.

The responsibilities associated with the broader laboratory management:

• Oversee and manage daily laboratory operations including laboratory supplies.
• Coordinate with staff, facilities, environmental health and safety, and IT support.
• Ensure the lab operates with updated training, standards, and practices within the lab space, including onboarding of new lab staff.
• Ensure state-of-the-art lab equipment for the scientists and optimize the management of lab space.
• Liaison with DFCI Central Administration including Grants and Contracts, Finance, EHS, and the Office of Innovation.
• Ample opportunities for scientific writing, depending on the interests and aptitude of the selected candidate.

• PhD or master’s degree in biology, chemistry, biomedical science or related, with experience in complex scientific projects is preferred.
