Sony Electronics has an excitingfull-timeopportunity for Environmental Stewardship Program manager. We are seeking a highly skilled professional capable of managing organization's stewardship programs in the United States and Canada as a member of Corporate Sustainability and Product Compliance department.

The environmental stewardship program manager is primarily responsible for the organization's stewardship programs, ensuring compliance with various state and provincial laws and regulations in the US and Canada, and seeking ways to increase values to customers and stakeholders through such programs. He/she will monitor trends in legislative development, partner requirements, stakeholder expectations, market, and technologies and attend to emerging needs to minimize risks to the company and enhance the value of the programs.Primary focus is on planning, budgeting, forecasting and contracting services to maintain company's access to market in regulated states and provinces while identifying opportunities to optimize and further enhance the programs. Scope of products covers all electronic products and batteries that fall under Sony Group. This person will report to Director at Corp. Sustainability and Product Compliance under Service platform.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor relevant regulatory development around product stewardship and Right to Repair and represent the company in the advocacy opportunities.

  • Represent the company at industry association meetings, discussions and initiatives.

  • Develop internal procedures and programs and implement them to ensure compliance with product stewardship and Right to Repair laws and regulations.

  • Ensure data necessary to address new requirements are readily available by working with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Report annually to various states and provinces on exact scope of products, results of collections and recycling programs as well as other applicable requirements per each state and provincial laws and regulations.

  • Conduct data analysis on products sold, forecasting level of electronics waste collections and recycling needed and manage the stewardship budget and programs accordingly.

  • Seek opportunities to deliver best in class service at competitive pricing, enhancing values to consumers and stakeholders through product stewardship programs.

  • Auditing and confirming acceptance of ewaste and battery recycler operations and programs.

  • Vendor selection and management of stewardship programs to ensure compliance with various state and provincial requirements.

  • Ensuring internal and external communication of the programs and manage consumer facing website for recycling options and stewardship information.

  • Understand life cycle impacts of electronics and identify and assess continual improvement opportunities toward circular economy. Lead circular economy project by working with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Assist various internal groups and Sony group companies as a subject matter expert.

  • Additional responsibility may include monitoring of emerging regulatory requirements and developing and implementing programs to address them.

  • The ideal candidate will be based in San Diego, California with ability to travel occasionally in North America.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree required

  • Must have a minimum of 5+ years of work experience in a related field.

  • Excellent technical understanding of environmental issues, environmental compliance requirements and their relationship to various business aspects are required

  • Must be detailed and results oriented with keen interests in environmental outcome and economics for continual improvements

  • Must be highly motivated to learn emerging issues and manage these accordingly

  • Must be capable of managing and leading projects with strong work ethics

  • Must be capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast paced environment with little direct supervision

  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills as well as ability to interact with all levels of management, employees, and stakeholders and leadership skill required

  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills required.

  • Proficiency with MS Windows based applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred field of study include Engineering or Environmental Science

  • Experience in managing stewardship programs and engagement in environmental advocacy efforts are highly desired

  • Experience in managing third party vendors and environmental due diligence are preferred

  • Advanced knowledge with MS Excel and Power BI is preferred

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $111,000 to $148,000. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for a bonus, and a comprehensive benefits package including healthcare benefits (medical, dental, and vision), paid medical leave after three months of employment, a 401k plan with matching company contributions, vacation time, education assistance, student loan assistance program, eighty hours of paid sick leave time annually, and up to twelve weeks paid parental leave after six months of employment.
