Title: Coordinator of Student Accessibility Services

Unit: Full Time MCCC

Department: Student Accessibility Services

Reports To: Assistant Dean of Accessibility and Title IX Coordinator

 

General Summary:

The mission and focus of Student Accessibility Services is to assist students, faculty and staff with ensuring equitable access to all student programs and services, create an environment that recognizes ability on a cultural level and to serve as a primary support to qualifying students. This role will work closely with all departments as a partner and will include the various services in student affairs, academic affairs and provide support to faculty with implementation of accommodations. This position reports directly to the Assistant Dean of Accessibility and Title IX Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Assistant Dean of Accessibility and Title IX Coordinator with ensuring Roxbury Community College is inclusive and accessible to all students with disabilities by utilizing a proactive framework
  • Provides support to students with disabilities with an approach that recognizes and values diversity with an intersectional approach to needs and their humanity.
  • Reviews/updates marketing materials for RCC, conducts outreach via Student Newsletter and New Student Orientation and presents at college tours on SAS.
  • Refers students to various resources and programs including advising, tutoring, counseling, etc.
  • Meets with students on an individual basis to provide coaching on executive functioning; develop strategies for time management, explore tools for managing deadlines and assignments, and train students on assistive technology.
  • Coordinate writing, delivery and archiving of accommodation letters for students.
  • Assists Testing Center with proctoring exams to students with accommodations.
  • Coordinates alternative text and adaptation of course materials to ensure accessibility for students
  • Receives, documents and manages electronic filing of records for SAS in information management systems.
  • Partner with Testing Center to provide accommodations to internal and external test takers.
  • Design and facilitate training and workshops on creating accessible programs and resources, recognition of disability on a cultural level and engage with student activism on campus.
  • Work with Academic Technology, Marketing and Communications and IT to foster accessible online learning, content and virtual classroom design.
  • Refer students to and partner with external agencies such as MRC, DDS, DMH and others.
  • Serves on Behavioral Intervention Team and supports team with addressing students of concern related to ADA and Section 504.
  • Maintains professional knowledge in applicable areas (i.e. maintains a working knowledge of assigned area; researches new trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; attends conferences, workshops, and training sessions).
  • Comply with the duties as stipulated in the Massachusetts Community College Council Collective Bargaining Agreement. Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Special Education, counseling, Higher Education or closely related field with three to five years of experience and/or training that includes working with students with all types of disabilities in post-secondary education, administering/interpreting ADA and Section 504, 508 and other relevant laws, educational and psychological tests, curriculum development, and program administration; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Ability to work in a diverse environment using excellent customer service skills.
  • Evening and weekend availability.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn new software.

MCCC position (37.5 hrs), with full benefits.


Compensation: Per the MCCC Grade 6 Professional Staff Salary Grid, salary is commensurate with Education and Experience in accordance with the MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement.
