THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN SAN DIEGO, CA

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Hobbs Veterinary Specialty Hospital Business Officer is responsible for financial, budget, human resource administration and facilities management of the San Diego clinic. In collaboration with the COO, this position oversees all unit financial and budget activities, including personnel and operating budgets and supervises the financial processing, administrative and clerical functions at this location. This position will work closely with senior leadership, managers, supervisors and staff in their assigned units to ensure business and administrative needs are met. The San Diego veterinary clinic is a fast-paced business center, constantly evolving with a demanding clientele and veterinary patient case load.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Sit at computer for extended periods of time.
  • Lift/maneuver heavy supplies and boxes periodically up to 40 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • May require working with or around areas with sick animals, hazardous materials, and/or infectious diseases, and distraught clients.
  • UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field plus five (5) years of related experience/training OR eight (8) years related experience education/training.

  • Supervisory & personnel management experience and leadership in assessment and prioritization of employee performance, workflow and collaboration/teamwork.

  • Extensive experience providing high level accounting, audit and payroll principles and procedures with revenue-generating and clearing accounts.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Combination of human resources, leadership, complex accounting, and organizational skills to oversee a complex, self-supporting unit in the areas of teaching, research, clinical service, information technology, space and facility management.

  • Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to interact with a diverse group of people to include UC administration, faculty, clinicians, clinical trainees, campus personnel, vendors and clients.

  • Skills to communicate with discretion and confidence with regard to confidential material or situations and exercise judgment in releasing information.

  • Personnel management skills to recruit, select, develop and evaluate supervisors and staff personnel.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred License/Certification:

  • Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM).

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Experience and proven success in clinic/center management experience, with progressive expertise in practice management, scheduling, customer-service methods, incident reporting, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, and information technology.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University accounting, payroll, UC policies and procedures, and collective bargaining agreements/contracts and analytical skills to discern and apply appropriately.

  • Ability to effectively carry out leadership and delegation of authority.

This position is a critical position and subject to a background check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history and identity checks.
