DESCRIPTION

Under supervision, the incumbent will assist researchers in Down syndrome and Alzheimer's disease to explore the biology of these conditions and decipher underlying mechanisms. Make significant innovative contributions towards research goals. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for educating students, with special responsibility for training in immunostaining and morphological analysis including confocal microscopy. Highly desirable are skills in electrophysiology, including fiber photometry. The incumbent must be able to perform SDS-PAGE and Western immunobloting, ELISAs, RNA isolation and RT-qPCR, and help with general lab maintenance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong theoretical knowledge in Neuroscience, Biology, typically attained by a PhD and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. PhD highly preferred.

  • Proven experience working with animals (mice).

  • Strong experience with immunocytochemical assays, Western blots.

  • Strong laboratory experience for staining with (DAB and fluorescence). Ability to make significant innovative contributions towards research goals.

  • Demonstrate expertise in assessing morphological parameters in the brains of disease models including unbiased stereology.

  • Demonstrated experience in electrophysiological methods, including fiber photometry.

  • Experience in methods of analysis.

  • Extensive experience with routine culture techniques, sterilization, and proper disposal of tissue culture waste.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to take ownership of work performance, follow through on assignments, and take initiative to learn more advanced skill in experiments and techniques.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills that facilitate professional, effective, and courteous interaction with a diverse population.

  • Strong computer skills using network systems and web-based databases. Experience creating and maintaining databases.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Down Syndrome.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be available to work some weekends and evenings.
  • Must be able to work in an animal research related work environment.
  • Must be willing to work with mice.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $64,506 - $103,727 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $30.89 - $49.68

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
