Sr. Director, Corporate Engagement

Job Description

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. To fulfill this mission, the Society funds cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy, facilitates professional education, collaborates with MS organizations around the world, and provides programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward. Essential Function/Responsibility:

Grow Revenue: (80%)

  • Provide leadership as senior level relationship contact for the Society to national and global companies.
  • Develop strategic business relationships to:
    • secure funding to achieve department revenue targets in the $3-5 million range annually from companies at the giving level of $1 million+.
  • With staff and volunteer leaders, prospect for new business, build a pipeline of prospects and a create a diverse and active portfolio of accounts.
  • Build a diverse portfolio of national accounts for national sponsorship and campaigns
  • Provide timely direction, framework and resources to volunteers while at the same time relying on their expertise, abilities and willingness to leverage their networks.
  • Lead solution development efforts that best address the corporate accounts needs while ensuring Society priorities and capabilities are incorporated.
  • Engage in external activities to understand and react to industry and donor trends and effectively incorporates these into the plans.
  • Assess risk and opportunities and adjusts plans accordingly.

Increase capacity and ensure effective operations (20% of time)

  • Work effectively with all departments to deliver objectives
  • Lead joint company strategic account planning process that develops mutual goals and objectives, revenue targets and critical milestones on a multi-year basis
  • Develops, with others, the annual operational plan, budget and quarterly forecast
  • Maintains a broad knowledge of Society priorities and activities.
  • Accountable to implement the operational plans, and ensure all staff contribute to positive morale, solve problems, own decisions and engage in continuous improvement
  • Monitors own revenue and expense areas and contributes to the effectiveness of revenue and expenses management of the entire department.
  • Coaches, develops and supervises a team member. Addresses poor performance and behaviors inconsistent with the Society norms and operating principles.
  • Ensures communication and integration both within the development team and with all other departments.

Minimum Education/Skills/Competencies:

  • Experience in an organization with geographically dispersed operations. Ability to work independently while functioning in a matrix-oriented environment
  • Knowledge of non-profits and experience with leadership volunteers in a collegial relationship with staff
  • Five (5) years of successful sales experience, particularly in selling intangible programs and services, along with the ability to develop and execute sales and marketing strategies
  • Five (5) years of experience in negotiation and solution oriented problem-solving
  • Five (5) years of experience developing and delivering presentations to both large and small groups with a strong executive presence
  • Comprehensive ability to prepare written and oral communications
  • Ability to consult and interact with high level personnel
  • Must be able to travel at least 25% of time, including overnight stays
  • Coaching individuals to improved performance and professional development
  • Ability to build trusting, open and honest relationships
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate the Society's Operating Principles including cultural values
  • Ability to direct and motivate staff and volunteers and create strong relationships with a wide range of constituents.
  • Demonstrated competency in:
    • Plan and budget development and resource management
    • Community engagement, logistics and volunteer engagement;
    • Effective interpersonal relationship building and management;
    • Ability to build trusting, open, and honest relationships
    • Coaching individuals and teams to improved performance and professional development
    • Must have strong executive presence; and the ability to present to and connect effectively with many people

Technical/Other

  • Strong knowledge of MS Office computer programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Knowledge and ability to use Society technology platforms (CRM and online meeting tools with training.)
  • Strong public speaking, presentation and writing skills required.

Compensation and Benefits Info

Estimatedhiringcompensation range for this role is $82,000 - $107,000 annually. Final offers will be based on candidategeographic location and consider career experienceandmay vary from this range due to theseand otherfactors.
