Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The position of Therapist at the University of Maryland is located in the Behavioral Health Clinic within the University’s Health Center. This position provides ongoing mental health services to the students of University of Maryland. These services include assessment of need, referrals, ongoing psychotherapy as well as triage and group therapy.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Master’s degree from and accredited social work, licensed counselor, or marriage and family therapist program

Experience: 
  • Two (2) years of clinical experience in a college or other ambulatory mental health clinic.
  • Licensed Certified Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-C) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LCPC) or must obtain LCSW-C or LCPC in the State of Maryland within one (1) year of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of mental health diagnoses and assessment; knowledge of psychotherapy principles
  • Experience providing direct psychotherapy services to individuals, additional experience with young adults encouraged.
  • Knowledge of group psychodynamics and supervision.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
  • Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service and sensitivity to a culturally and ethnically diverse community.

Additional Information:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duty/Responsibility (1): | Provides a wide range of social and mental health services to students including assessments, referral and psychotherapy, triage, and group therapy.
Percentage (1): | 70%

Essential Duty/Responsibility (2): | Works with administrative functions of the unit as needed.
Engage With clients and other members of the campus community as needed to ensure excellent clinical care.
Ensures best practices, protocols, and regulations are adhered to all times.
Percentage (2): | 25%

Essential Duty/Responsibility (3): | Other duties as assigned.
Percentage (3): | 5%
