Job Description

Summary

Michael Triebwasser in the Department of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology seeks a highly motivated Research Laboratory Technician to assist with laboratory research.

Dr. Triebwasser works with Prof Joerg Lahann of the Biointerfaces Institute to develop novel non-viral gene delivery methods. The goal is to understand what drives effective gene delivery to specific cell types. As a pediatric hematologist, Dr. Triebwasser is focused on gene therapy for genetic blood disorders. This work involves characterizing the physical characteristics of nanocarriers and also their effectiveness in blood forming cells.

Responsibilities*

  • Experimental responsibilities
    • Nanoparticle characterization-size, charge, stability
    • Size exclusion chromatography
    • Designing and performing PCR assays
    • DNA extraction and RNA extraction
    • Mammalian cell culture/transfection
    • DNA/plasmid cloning
    • Flow cytometry & Fluorescence microscopy
    • Recombinant protein production and purification
    • Data analysis and preparation of data for presentation
  • Non-experimental responsibilities
    • Purchasing of lab supplies and equipment as authorized.
    • Maintenance of lab equipment
    • Preparation of samples for shipping

Required Qualifications*

  • BS in molecular biology, genetics, chemistry, or related area of an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field
    • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
    • Good documentation skills
    • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
    • Experience with PCR assays, DNA extraction, PCR assays, and/or gene editing
    • Experience with confocal fluorescence microscopy
    • Experience with nanoparticle characterization and isolation/purification
    • Experience with protein production and purification
    • Experience with research data analysis and experimental design
    • Knowledge and understanding of lab safety protocols including biological and chemical safety.
    • At least one -year full time experience

Desired Qualifications*

  • Assessment of gene editing (CRISPR, base editing)
  • Ability and motivation to learn new experimental approaches and safety protocols, and analyze and present data
  • Experience with or willingness to next-generation sequencing.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn mouse husbandry.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn in vitro transcription.

Background Screening
