Position Summary

Provides leadership and direction in the development, execution, and evaluation of campus-wide programs aimed at supporting the engagement and support of MCC’s diverse student body.  Promotes student success and retention efforts by overseeing student life, student support and assistance, and student wellness services and partnering closely with student diversity and inclusion. Oversees and provides care, support services, and programming that address students’ overall wellbeing and development. Oversees the daily operations of student mental health services, student engagement, student conduct, and student support programs and services. Serves as the College’s Title IX Coordinator.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to employees in Student Life, Student Advocacy (includes student conduct), Student Wellness, and student employees in the Student Resource Center and Student Veterans Resource Center. This involves hiring, training, motivating, and managing so the team performs at the highest level possible
  • Oversee staff training, ensuring competency in all functions and an understanding on department policies and procedures
  • Provide general oversight for physical spaces connected to student engagement and support for all areas of supervision, ensuring adequate office coverage
  • Provide direct support services to students by responding to immediate student needs and concerns. 
  • Serve as the College’s Title IX Coordinator and coordinate with Human Resources as it relates to faculty, staff, or administrators
  • Provide oversight of the College’s Title IX efforts, including the development and implementation of disclosures, policies, and procedures, and trainings designed to comply with federal and state legislationCreate and publicize avenues for students, employees, and third parties to report Title IX related complaints and ensure the prompt and equitable response to complaints Ensure compliance with requirements of Title IX, VAWA, the Campus SaVE Act, the Illinois Preventing Sexual Violence in Higher Education Act as they relate to students, and coordinate with Human Resources for employee compliance
  • Develop a co-curricular framework for planning and assessing programs and services to support an integrated learning environment in which students are empowered to apply the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom through intentional learning opportunities
  • Lead college-wide efforts to create a unified vision and framework for a thriving student engagement culture
  • Explore and implement an equity minded delivery of serves to promote student engagement initiatives in partnership with Student Diversity and Inclusion
  • Oversee the operation and distribution of various student assistance programs (e.g. Student Success Fund, Veteran’s Laptop grant, etc.)
  • Coordinate with faculty to assist students with extended absences and withdrawal from courses due to medical and/or mental health concerns
  • Work with administrators, staff, faculty, and community-based organizations to coordinate a broad base of holistic support for students
  • Coordinate training related to student support, student conduct, crisis response, mental health, and Title IX to the campus community
  • Serve as Co-Chair of MCC’s Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) and as a member of relevant student engagement and safety/wellness committees
  • Ensure compliance with the Mental Health Early Action on Campus Act, and manage State funding related to the Act.
  • Work with local agencies to develop student intervention/prevention programs, referral resources, and general community linkages 
  • Maintain engagement with related national trends and best practices in all areas of responsibility to help shape continuous improvement of student success, engagement, and support and to inform on-going professional development
  • Compile, summarize, maintain, and submit data or other records to appropriate departments
  • Conduct a regular assessment of program and services and develop goals and objectives related to improving student retention through areas of supervision.
  • Work collaboratively with others (e.g. colleagues, stakeholders, vendors) to accomplish functions and responsibilities
  • Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution 
  • Two years’ prior experience successfully leading and building a team
  • Experience in serving diverse student populations
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in higher education with specific experience in Student Affairs areas that promote student engagement, success, and support.
