The agent in this position will provide leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of an effective Extension outcome-based education program addressing the issues and opportunities identified in Robeson County. The areas of responsibility for this position include field crops including soybeans, small grains, cotton and peanuts.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The agent in this position will provide leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of an effective Extension outcome-based education program addressing the issues and opportunities identified in Robeson County. The areas of responsibility for this position include field crops including soybeans, small grains, cotton and peanuts.

Other Work/Responsibilities


The successful candidate is expected to provide leadership for the development, implementation and evaluation of an Extension educational program addressing the needs of agricultural producers in Robeson County.

The agent will determine program needs by monitoring trends and issues using input from appropriate Extension advisory committees and NC State University and NC A&T State University specialists,

Successful educational programs require a plan of action with measurable goals and objectives that meet the needs of target audiences. NCCE expects field faculty to develop, implement and evaluate educational programs using appropriate delivery methods and technologies, including integrated and multidisciplinary programming. Outcome and impacts are to be documented and marketed.

This position will work with row crop farmers to provide them with research based information.
This position is responsible for staying up to date with the latest products and technologies offered. This position will spend time and effort, along with other staff to promote agriculture in Robeson County.

The successful candidate is expected to be a team player in working with other Extension staff and networking with other organizations.

Minimum Experience/Education

One of the following educational requirements: – A Bachelor’s degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 overall or a 3.0 (based on a 4.0 scale) in an agricultural or related field. The minimum GPA requirement will be waived for NCCE Program Associates with a Bachelor’s degree. – A Bachelor’s degree and the completion of at least one-half of coursework in a Master’s degree curriculum with a cumulative grade point average 3.0 or higher with at least one of the degrees in an agricultural or related field, or – Completion of a Master’s degree with at least one of the degrees in an agricultural or related field. Also required: a personal automobile; computer literacy; strong oral and written communication skills; the ability to plan, implement, market, and evaluate educational programs; willingness to work as a team member and support a total Extension program; and the ability to handle multiple demands and set priorities. Personal Attributes: Successful performance of the duties encompassed in the Extension Agent’s job requires that the individual possess habits of industry, a sense of responsibility, and a genuine appreciation for the worth of the individual. The employee must be adept in both oral and written communication. The Extension Agent is eligible to become a member of the non-tenure track/special faculty at North Carolina State University. The Extension Agent has primary responsibility for planning, executing, and evaluating that phase of Extension programs within assigned areas of program responsibility. The Extension Agent cooperates with colleagues in the North Carolina Cooperative Extension and leaders in performing assigned responsibilities. The performance of assigned responsibilities is governed by the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension.

Department Required Skills

The individual must possess a strong work ethic, initiative, ability to work with broad audiences, sense of responsibility, and flexibility. A bachelor’s degree in agronomy or related area of science is required.
Knowledge and experience in communications, presentation, public relations/marketing, leadership, time management organization, technology, networking, and resource development is essential.
Travel within the county is required. Some travel within the state and district is required.
This agent will possess excellent oral and written communication skills, a high degree of subject matter competence, and have the ability to work independently.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

Master’s degree in agronomy or related field is preferred.

Required License or Certification

Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation required and must be maintained. In order to operate a state vehicle, a valid driver’s license is required and must be maintained.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Minimum Bachelor's $40,000; Minimum Master's $45,000; Minimum Doctorate $50,000 Commensurate with experience.
