Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Institute for Systems Research (ISR) is seeking a highly organized and personable professional with exceptional attention to detail to join ISR. The position has a strong customer service emphasis that will support faculty, students, staff and constituents in general. The Research and Finance Manager position will be responsible for a wide range of financial responsibilities, specifically pre-award activities including proposal development, review and routing of proposals in accordance with established UMD and sponsor guidelines.

The individual chosen for this position, must possess excellent attention to detail and able to work in a fast-paced research environment. Must be able to complete multiple assignments under specific time constraints while being able to work well under pressure. Must be a self-starter and willing to take the initiative.

The position requires proficiency using software applications, databases, spreadsheets and word processing, including advance use in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and formulas.

Excellent verbal and written skills and dedicated to excellence in customer service to internal and external constituents.

Must be able to maintain daily business hours of attendance within the department and be available after hours if a proposal deadline requires attention. Punctuality and time management are essential for the success of the incumbent.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in business, finance or accounting.

Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a related financial position.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in proposal development, contract and grant administration and preparation of research proposal packages.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of OMB Circulars and Uniform Guidance.
  • Working experience in higher education is preferred, specifically within UMD.
  • Highly organized, analytical and problem-solving abilities with strong mathematical skills.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience working in electronic proposal submission programs, such as eRA commons, Grants.gov, Fastlane, NSPIRES, Research.gov, ASSIST and FastLane.
  • Working knowledge of KFS, Workday, Priority BA4, and PHR.
  • Knowledge of UMD policies and procedures (preferred).
  • Knowledge of UMCPF and USMF policies and procedures.
  • Experience within a university research administration environment.
