Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board.
Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses.
Virginia Western Community College, located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Roanoke Valley. The greater Roanoke area offers opportunities for outdoor adventures such as hiking, biking, and water sports, as well as, cultural offerings such as concerts, festivals, museums, historical sites. The area is a rapidly growing food destination including ethnic, local, casual and fine dining experiences. The Roanoke region not only offers quality healthcare and contributes to the growing area of healthcare research, but is also located in close proximity to several universities.

Virginia Western is accepting applications for a nine-month History faculty position beginning the fall 2024 semester. The incumbent will have a teaching load of approximately 15 credits per semester, which may include distance-learning courses and on- and off-campus courses during the day and evening, on weekdays and weekends. In addition to teaching, all faculty members advise students, serve on college committees, and participate in other activities that support the mission of the college. Such activities may include, but are not limited to: institutional effectiveness activities, club sponsorship, student recruitment, course and program evaluation, community service, and mentoring new and part-time faculty. Faculty are expected to maintain currency in their teaching disciplines and in trends in community college education.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Master's degree in History or a Master's degree in any field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in History courses.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in History. Teaching experience in a community college setting. Demonstrated experience using classroom technology, in a hybrid or distance-learning format.
