Job Description
Scripps mission is to provide superior health services in a caring environment and to make a positive, measurable difference in the health of individuals. We achieve this through an unending focus on patient-centered and compassionate care, cost-effective operations, research, advanced technology and innovation. We advance clinical research, community health education, and education of health care professionals.
Scripps cares for people throughout San Diego with four acute care hospitals on five campuses, 31 outpatient clinics, 15 Scripps HealthExpress sites. Scripps has more than 3,000 affiliated physicians and 16,000 employees treat and support more than 600,000 patients each year. Three highly respected graduate medical education programs and two pharmacy resident programs train the next generation of caregivers.
Fortune and Great Place to Work released their annual list of the "Best Workplaces in Health Care", ranking Scripps the 3rd best health care system and the 5th best health care company to work for in the nation in 2023. All five Scripps Health hospital campuses have received an "A" grade for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization. U.S. News & World Report consistently ranks Scripps Health specialties among the best in the nation in their annual Best Hospitals list.
Scripps has been part of the community for more than 100 years, longer than any other health care provider in San Diego. The organization was founded with a philanthropic gift and has flourished thanks to the continuous benevolence of the San Diego community. Scripps Health is in the midst of the Here for Good capital campaign, a $500 million, decade-long campaign to help fund the expansion across the system. Continued philanthropic support will ensure the organization is prepared to institute expanded treatment and care outcomes, new discoveries and pioneering plans to truly make a difference in the health and quality of life of the community.
The Director of Development will support the Here for Good capital campaign, which reflects both its tenured, century-long legacy in San Diego and its dedication to continued excellence. The primary activity of the Director of Development (DoD) is externally focused to secure private philanthropic support and the DoD's effectiveness will be evaluated on the ability to achieve financial goals and meet metrics. The DoD is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors, corporations, corporate foundations, and private foundations. The position will be responsible for a portfolio of $1.5M+. Under the general direction of the Senior Director of Development, the DoD develops strategies to manage and enhance major gift fundraising for the Here for Good Campaign.
The DoD is expected to be a highly collaborative colleague with other development officers across the Scripps health system. This position works in close partnership with clinical and administrative colleagues at the hospital to identify programs in need of funding, gather information for proposals, and steward major gifts.
This position will also be responsible for overseeing the planning and execution of major fundraising events. Design, implement, and oversee specialized fundraising initiatives and campaigns that align with organizational goals and priorities.
Join Scripps Health as Director, Development where your primary responsibilities will include:
- Cultivating and soliciting major gifts ($25K+) from individuals to help in the Here for Good capital campaign along with assigned priority projects, centers, and programs, with/without volunteer assistance as appropriate.
