The Design Engineer II is proficient in and responsible for creating, reviewing, and managing engineering deliverables as assigned by the Design Engineering Manager or Project Managers. Duties include both dayto-day tasks as assigned and longer term, broader scope responsibilities associated with specific projects. As part of the Engineering team, the Design Engineer II will support projects throughout the project life cycle; project development and conceptual design, project design for construction, project documentation following construction, and operations and maintenance. The Design Engineer II is responsible to consistently follow work practices and conventions established within the Engineering team, as well as to engage in refining and documenting design/engineering processes, best practices, code compliance, and product/system application details. The Design Engineer II must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in communicating complex technical topics with non-technical audiences. The Design Engineer II will be responsible for clear communications and effective interactions both internally within the Company and with Company consultants, contractors, clients, and partners.
Location: This position will have hybrid flexibilty based local to our Columbia, MD or West Lebanon, NH office. Remote may be considered for exceptional candidates in select areas.
- Serve as the technical interface lead with respective teams including origination, project development, procurement, project management, and finance.
- Manage external third-party engineering consultants. Collaborate externally and internally throughout projects in development with consideration of technical specifications and lessons learned.
- Create, organize, and maintain documents associated with projects' basis of design throughout the project life cycle.
- Implement strategies for integration of new tools, new products, new vendors, code changes, and best practices, and disseminate to internal departments as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience -
Typically requires:
- Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering (preferred)
- Five to ten years of relevant design experience, particularly including experience in designing electrical systems; seven to ten years of distributed generation PV design preferred.
- Requires diversified knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and engineering principles and practices required to produce safe, efficient, reliable, easy to operate and maintain, and cost-effective designs.
- Knowledge of electrical substation design, construction, and operation (preferred).
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities -
Requires knowledge of:
- National Electric Code and other model codes
- Project management experience
- Computer-based drafting experience (AutoCAD)
