E-Discovery Technology Support Manager

Cooley is seeking an E-Discovery Technology Support Manager to join the Litigation and E-Discovery Services team.

Position summary: The LEDS Technology Support Manager is part of Cooley's Litigation and E-Discovery Services department ("LEDS"). This role is responsible for managing the firm's litigation and E-Discovery technology support applications (E-Discovery Technology), ensuring ongoing technical support and administration of E-Discovery Technology and implements new E-Discovery technology. This position will continually assess Cooley's E-Discovery technology needs and implement best practices for leveraging E-Discovery technology. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Position responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage specialized E-Discovery technology systems and infrastructure, e.g., Relativity
  • Liaise with Cooley's IS department regarding hardware acquisitions and to coordinate implementation and maintenance of E-Discovery technology
  • Ensure consistent and regular testing of E-Discovery technology and monitor implementation and post-implementation performance, including regular upgrades to systems to maximize usage of features and improvements
  • Troubleshoot issues that arise with E-Discovery technology including follow-up with external provider help desk and document improvements and fixes to the team
  • Maintain a working knowledge of and stay current on E-Discovery technology and industry trends
  • Design and implement technical workflow processes and maintain workflow documentation for E-Discovery technology
  • Design processes to ensure and provide front-line assistance, end-user training, and troubleshooting assistance to users of E-Discovery technology (e.g., Relativity, RelOne, Brainspace, Agility Blue, Opus2, etc.)
  • Review, test, and recommend new E-Discovery technology to department leadership
  • Maintain useful and accessible documentation regarding E-Discovery technology, including installation instructions, upgrade notes, and tip-sheets for all E-Discovery applications
  • Assist with the development and implementation of best practices for data processing, advanced analytics, and document review project management
  • Enhance and contribute to quality control procedures at all stages of the E-Discovery workflow
  • Coordinate and handle requests for new or modified templates and automated processes
  • Manage and administer SQL script and CPL commands
  • Manage and document software, vendor, and end-user technical issues/resolutions
  • Present findings, recommendations, and specifications regarding existing and future E-Discovery technology in formal written reports and oral presentations to E-Discovery management
  • Advise regarding source code technical requirements and procedures
  • Ensure accurate and timely entry of billable and non-billable time
  • All other duties as assigned or required

Skills and experience:

Required:

  • After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications
  • Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required
  • Ability to travel, as required
  • 5+ years' experience with E-Discovery Services covering all stages of the EDRM (File to Trial)
  • Extensive experience with Relativity, Concordance, LAW Pre-Discovery, MS Access and other litigation review applications and technology
  • Extensive experience working in Relativity, including custom objects and event handlers
  • Deep knowledge of SQL, Microsoft Access and Excel
  • Demonstrated experience setting up workflows for Relativity structured analytics and Active Learning
  • Understanding and application of data reduction methods via E-Discovery tools
  • Understanding and application of early data and case assessment, processing/review tools and technology assisted review platforms
  • Thorough understanding of relational databases, programming languages and the fundamentals of desktop and network operating systems
  • General familiarity with all aspects of software interaction with network and business application systems
  • Familiarity and experience with SaaS, SQL, ODBC, VBA, Relativity Scripts, MSDOS and virtualized environments and UNIX and Macintosh operating system
  • Familiarity and experience with hardware: general processor specifications, printer specifications, network protocols and storage devices - including backup solutions
  • Experience with litigation preparedness and an understanding of expected response times (SLAs) for E-Discovery support
  • Technical knowledge of and experience with the latest information technology tools and standards to support enterprise information management, as well as applications in data analytics to help organizations manage, classify, and efficiently use information
  • Knowledge regarding E-Discovery risk management issues and responsibilities

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree with concentration in Computer Science
  • Technical certifications
  • Law firm/vendor environment

The expected annual pay range for this position is $140,000 - $180,000. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate.
