Job Description

Currently recruiting a MRI Technologist in San Diego, California, to work at working in the Naval Medical Center San Diego providing medical care for military members, retirees, and their families. The MRI Technologist is a full-time position, Monday - Friday between the hours of 6AM - 2: 30PM and 2: 30 PM - 11PM. Services are not required on Federal holidays, except for 24-hour on-call services. On Federal Holidays, on-call duty shall commence at 6: 30AM through 6: 30AM of the following day. When a federal holiday occurs on a Friday, on-call duty commences at 11PM on the preceding workday. Each MRI Technologist shall provide one week of on-call services approximately every 6 to 8 weeks. The MRI Technologist will not exceed providing on-call services 3 federal holidays a year. Historically, the MRI Technologist that is on-call will be called back to the facility 1 time a week. If called back, the MRI Technologist shall report to the facility within 1 hour and be prepared to provide patient care for an average of 2 hours.

DUTIES OF THE MRI TECHNOLOGIST:
  • Perform a full range of MRI technologist functions and procedures.
  • Explain to the patient the procedure to be performed and answer relevant questions.
  • Set up patients and perform necessary adjustments and patient position as prescribed by the diagnostic radiologist or senior MRI technologist.
  • Perform daily warm up and quality control checks of MRI equipment as per manufacturer or technical representative recommendations.
  • Make minor adjustments on equipment. Differentiate artifacts from normal or pathological processes and recognize electronic equipment limitations. Program the examination equipment, set up the machine and scanning techniques to be employed.
  • Recognize situations requiring patient resuscitation due to cardiac or respiratory arrest and institute the necessary emergency measures.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE MRI TECHNOLOGIST:
  • Possess and maintain current certification and registration as a Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (MRI) as determined by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • 2 years of MRI scanning experience as an MRI Technologist
  • U.S. Citizenship (required for access to Gov' t computer systems)
