What You Will Contribute To Altos

The In Vivo Hub will serve as a central resource to SDI scientists to support the development and implementation of in vivo research models and studies. The In Vivo Hub Manager will serve as a functional leader responsible for overseeing hub operations. The Hub Manager will be responsible for the hiring, training, and supervision of In Vivo Hub team members. The Hub Manager will work closely with the SDI Scientist and Scientific Operations leaders to support the development of methods and workflows, integrate workflows into larger operational networks and working groups, and standardize workflows to drive efficiency and impact of R&D efforts. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of supporting centralized in vivo research services.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for oversight of hub operations, including purchasing and management of equipment, development and implementation of in vivo support pipelines, and hiring and management of personnel
  • Assists with IACUC inspections and other oversight requirements
  • Manages controlled substance program
  • Manages centralized colony program including breeding activities (mating, weaning genotyping, etc.) and management of records
  • Manages a study support programs and staff providing technical expertise (dosing, bleeding, imaging, etc.) for in vivo studies.
  • Develops and maintains standard operating procedures for In Vivo Hub support functions and ensures proper capture and management of data.
  • Oversees coordination of external parties supporting animal husbandry and other in vivo support functions
  • Oversees the general upkeep and maintenance of core instrumentation and spaces.
  • Partners with Scientific Operations Director to broadly define goals and develop strategies to achieve goals
  • Responsible for budgeting, forecasting, and metric based reporting
  • Responsible for planning future expansions of infrastructure, instrumentation, service pipelines, and personnel
  • Responsible for interfacing with PIs and scientists to identify areas of in vivo support
  • Responsible for interfacing with scientific operations and hub leaders to identify opportunities for collaboration and harmonization within centralized scientific support infrastructures
  • Responsible optimizing, implementing, and standardizing operational pipelines in collaboration with SDI and Altos wide scientific leaders
  • Responsible for developing and communicating policies and procedures for use of hub infrastructure (training programs, use guidelines, standard operating procedures, etc.)
  • Responsible for proactive and tactful communication of information relevant to hub operations to larger constituency
Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS or MS in biological sciences or other relevant fields
  • AALAS certification at the LAT level or higher, and/or RVT
  • Must demonstrate a strong commitment to animal welfare and compliance. Knowledge of regulatory and compliance functions (IACUC, AAALAC, The Guide, etc.)
  • Experienced within scientific discipline that hub serves
  • Operational experience within a centralized scientific resource facility
  • Some exposure to computational and data analysis modalities relevant to scientific discipline that hub serves
  • Experience with managing teams and overseeing the completion of concurrent projects with diverse timelines and goals
  • Solution oriented. Experience with successfully working with diverse teams to define scientific needs and goals
  • Skilled communicator with proven track record of building effective partnerships with diverse teams

The salary range for San Diego:

  • Manager, Scientific Operations: $150,450 - $203,550
