Brown and Caldwell has a job opportunity for a self-motivated geologist, hydrogeologist or environmental scientist with 0-5 years of experience to join our local office in our Private Sector Business Unit. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a growth-oriented professional consulting office with a diverse technical staff of geologists, engineers, and scientists. The selected candidate will work with and be mentored by strong, nationally recognized, senior staff working on a variety of environmental and water resources related projects.

Detailed Description:

  • Provide field and office support on a variety of environmental services and water resources projects
  • Perform field data collection and documentation related to site investigations; observation of drilling operations; installation of water wells or soil borings, lithological logging; and various field tests and measurements of soil, air, surface water and/or groundwater properties.
  • Under the supervision of senior staff, perform technical evaluations to support planning, design, and permitting related to water supply, aquifer recharge, storm water, and environmental restoration
  • Assist with the preparation and interpretation of boring logs, cross-sections, contour maps, well schematics, and site maps
  • Draft technical memoranda, reports, and design documents
  • Coordinate field efforts; adhere to and assist with the development of work plans and health and safety plans

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • B.S. in Geology, Hydrogeology Civil or Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science required, M.S. a plus
  • 0-5 years of experience
  • Must be a self-starter, highly organized, results-oriented, reliable, and able to work well with a wide variety of coworkers and subcontractors
  • Must be willing to work in the field year-round, potentially for extended periods of time, and perform physically demanding work (see requirements below)
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and/or MSHA training a plus
  • Candidates should have a strong desire and be motivated to obtain a Geologist-in-Training and/or Engineer-in Training certification then Registered Professional Geologist and/or Engineer licensure in the state of California within 3-5 years
  • Excellent technical writing capabilities required
  • Must be proficient in using standard computer programs (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience with MS Project, MS Access, CADD, ArcGIS, and/or boring log software (such as gINT) a plus
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Ability to work for short periods of time in extreme temperatures including heat and cold.
  • Ability to wear required safety equipment at sites including hard hats, steel toed boots (or other approved toe protection), safety glasses, etc.
  • Ability to stand for several hours observing and documenting critical drilling and construction operations.
  • Ability to operate a BC pickup truck/personal vehicle to commute to jobsites and to access work areas on site
  • Ability to remain alert and vigilant while working around construction equipment and be able to walk swiftly for a short distance to clear an area where a potential hazard is identified.
  • Ability to climb stairs (2-3 flights) or ladders (up to 24-foot typically) to access structures for visual inspection.

Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Salary: $62,000 - $85,000
