The ideal candidate will have experience working with transit agencies in Southern California. The successful candidate shall demonstrate knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local standards and requirements and has an understanding of project delivery processes for various phases of project development from conceptual design to design support during construction.

Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Senior Rail Engineer, we'll count on you to:

  • Serve as Discipline or Task Lead for railroad or civil engineering design projects, and other offices to support the Transit Market Sector and other market sectors as needed
  • Support Project Managers by leading or participating in marketing and contracting activities
  • Manage scope, budget, and schedule, as well as development of design criteria, specifications, project guides, project meeting notes, and cost estimating activities
  • Perform railroad and/or civil engineering/design planning, analysis, and design aspects of rail and rail-related transportation projects
  • Lead and/or perform detailed QC reviews of projects
  • Support Project Managers by leading or participating in client and stakeholder meetings and site visits as needed
  • Attend industry events and represent HDR as needed
  • Mentor younger staff and support technical development
  • Supervise junior staff performance of engineering tasks
  • Provide leadership across technical disciplines
  • Serve as a high-level point of contact between the client and HDR
  • Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • 10+ years experience in railway engineering
  • California Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Skilled in technical writing, communicating and presenting to clients and the public
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project)
  • Proficiency in using Bentley and/or Autodesk software for rail design
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, strong communication skills, and ability to work in a team environment with various teams
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in technical writing, communicating, and presenting to clients and the public is desirable
  • Some project Management experience managing projects for rail, industrial or transit clients
  • Demonstrated client development or client management experience
  • Experience using Bentley's OpenRail Designer software
  • Local candidates are preferred

The expected compensation range for this position is $120,000 - $171,000 annually depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles are eligible for limited benefits.
