Job Summary

Ph.D., M.D. or Doctoral equivalent in any field. Scientific research experience is required. The postdoctoral fellow is responsible for conducting, reporting and presenting research in the study under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. The research area will include the development of novel neuromodulation therapies for treating gastrointestinal diseases and metabolic disorders, such as obesity, diabetes, visceral pain, inflammation and gastrointestinal dysmotility. The neuromodulation methods include vagal nerve stimulation, sacral nerve stimulation and transcutaneous neuromodulation.

  • Perform scientific and medical research work in translational research related fields.
  • Records and evaluate data obtained from work assignments for use in scientific papers. Collaborate with Principal Investigator, supervisor, and/or other research personnel in preparation of scientific paper publication.
  • Review literature and confer with colleagues regarding new procedures, and modifiy them according to the needs of the projects.

  • Construct, assemble, and operate laboratory equipment and apparatus.

  • Required Qualifications*

    Ph.D., M.D. or Doctoral equivalent in any field. Scientific research experience is required.

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Either in the area of biomedical research, such as follows:

    • Rodent survival surgery
    • Common research techniques such as western blotting and PCR
    • Experience working with Microsoft Office and research database products
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills

    Or in the area of biomedical engineering with following skills and experience:

    • Machine learning, such as artificial neural network
    • Biomedical signal processing, such as peak detection, special analysis, adaptive filtering
    • Experience working with Microsoft Office and research database products
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills

    Background Screening

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
