Job Description

 

A mission critical role during one of Asia Society’s most exciting moments. The Director of Individual Giving will drive growth among high-impact donors and prospects and lead the Patron Membership program for Asia Society. The Director is responsible for implementing a strategic pipeline to identify, cultivate, solicit, upgrade and steward gifts from leading individual donors. They are a key player in a dynamic Development department charged with ensuring the ongoing success of donor engagement to power Asia Society’s New York Head Quarter’s mission and programs.

This position will report directly to the Managing Director of Philanthropy and then Chief Development Officer. This position will work closely with the General Membership Manager and Major Gifts Officer.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage a portfolio of 100 to 150 individual high-impact donors and prospects, serving as primary liaison for their engagement with Asia Society

Program Definition & Leadership (20%): Lead the Individual Giving and Patron Member fundraising program in order to renew, upgrade, and strengthen their financial support for and engagement with Asia Society with an eye to maximizing donor lifetime value.

  • Drive strategy and approach to individual giving, including program structure and activities.
  • Build a culture of cultivation and delivery, promoting and ensuring team and board coordination to increase donor engagement.

Donor Cultivation (60%): Drive the day-to-day execution of the individual donor and Patron Membership program, including: Cultivating direct relationships with donors, including managing day-to-day correspondence and staffing / equipping senior staff as relevant.

  • Write, prepare, and present proposals and decks in support of the program.
  • Plan and execute personalized donor cultivation events.
  • Organize research and analytics for future prospects.

Knowledge Management (20%): Working in concert with Asia Society’s Prospect Researcher, develop a strong base of contacts with philanthropic advisory institutions and family offices in the USA and abroad.

  • Use Salesforce to maintain an accurate database of current and prospective opportunities, as well as current gifts.
  • Unify and operationalize all systems, resources, policies, and requirements for donor tracking, integrated field activity measurements, and related complex projects.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • College degree and 7-9 years of related work experience.
  • Progressively responsible experience with a proven track record of growing a high-end giving program
  • Data-driven approach and excellent analytic skills with demonstrated experience in developing and tracking metrics for success is a must.
  • Demonstrated out-the-door fundraising experience, preferably at a nonprofit cultural organization.
  • Successful track record of building omnichannel lifecycle marketing programs that have driven results: conversion, engagement, cross-sell, and retention.
  • Experience building and managing direct reports.
  • Strategic thinker with ability to provide thought leadership and guidance to direct reports, peers, and cross functional partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to use Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems to grow revenue and optimize lifetime value. Experience with Salesforce and ACME and Marketing Cloud a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships with donors and colleagues.
  • Entrepreneurial, self-directed, and organized with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable in ambiguous situations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

 

Salary Range: $95,000 - $110,000

Compensation within this range is determined by skills, experience, and organizational equity.

Benefit package highlights:

  • An HRA plan (fully funded by the Asia Society) supplements our medical plan and covers the full annual deductible.
  • After 1 year of service (1,000 hours), the Asia Society contributes 6% of gross earnings to an eligible employee’s 403(b) account, regardless of whether the employee makes their own contributions.
