Job Description Summary
The Business department within the Business Education division is seeking a full-time tenure track faculty member. A full-time instructor in the Business department could be asked to teach a variety of classes based upon their previous teaching or other work experience. Teaching assignments may include "Introduction to Business", "Marketing," "Entrepreneurship," "Small Business Management", "Work Experience", and/or "Business Communications". Teaching schedule and assignment will be made in conjunction with the division chair. Teaching locations could include San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, or Arroyo Grande, as well as the possibility for online teaching assignments. As a member of the Business Education division, you will work collaboratively on program review, curriculum updates, committee assignments, and connecting with local businesses to determine educational needs.

Teaching responsibilities:
Teaching begins with good preparation including choosing appropriate textbooks, writing a clear syllabus that outlines classroom expectations and content to be covered, and creating a plan for content delivery. Part of teaching responsibilities also include determining the best way to assess student learning and student learning outcomes, and assigning grades accordingly. It also includes communicating with your students throughout the semester, being available during office hours, and identifying college services available for students, as appropriate. Due to changes in delivery, all teachers are expected to become online teaching certified.

Essential Functions & Qualifications

Required:

  • Master's in business, business management, business administration, accountancy, finance, marketing or business education from an accredited institution;

OR

  • Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in economics, personnel management, public administration, or Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.) or Legum Baccalaureus (LL.B.) from an accredited institution;

OR

  • Bachelor's in economics with a business emphasis AND Master's in personnel management, public administration, or Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.) or Legum Baccalaureus (LL.B.) from an accredited institution;

OR

  • The equivalent. (Candidates applying on the basis of equivalency must submit all materials requested for an equivalency judgment. For directions on what is an acceptable equivalency argument please review the requirements listed on the HR Website or see further information on Equivalency Petition Process Information below.).

OR

  • A valid Community College credential in the discipline (If received prior to 1990, as the credential is no longer being issued).

Required:

  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable:

  • Teaching experience in the discipline, community college level preferred;
  • Awareness of the philosophy and objectives of California Community Colleges;
  • Professional industry experience
  • Community college teaching experience

Interview Process Information

Selected applicants will be invited to give a teaching demonstration an interview on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

First Interviews will be held in person or via Zoom by candidate request. In person interviews are preferred and, in the interest of equity, candidates will be reimbursed up to $500 toward their travel expenses if they choose to interview on campus. Virtual teaching demonstrations will be evaluated using the same criteria as in-person demonstrations and will be expected to facilitate similar levels of effectiveness, skill, engagement and interaction.

Second interviews will be held via Zoom on Friday, April 5, 2024.

The selected applicant will begin their full-time teaching assignment in the Fall semester of the 2024-2025 school year, which begins on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.
