Ideal Candidate Statement
The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • Excellent communication, written and listening skills;
  • Ability to work closely and collaborate with the Transfer Center Director and other counseling faculty;
  • Experience in coordinating student services programs;
  • Experience in retention and outreach activities;
  • Strong commitment to student services, specifically regarding Transfer Center functions;
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and follow through in a timely manner;
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite as well as ability to learn software and database programs;
  • Strong ability to clearly organize and maintain files and documents, both digital and printed;
  • Student-center professional with the ability to enthusiastically and effectively assist students individually and in groups;
  • Strong knowledge of the transfer process between community colleges and universities;
  • Experience in facilitating workshops and providing campus tours;
  • Strong technical skills to provide student support;
  • Ability to manage multiple calendars within outlook, Gmail and SARS database;
  • Strong knowledge of Excel and creating database lists;
  • Experience in marketing methods, practices and procedures;
  • Strong skills in taking initiative and problem solving.
 
 
This position is funded by categorical funds, and employment is subject to those funds being available.

Position Description
Under general supervision, the position assists the supervising manager in organizing the day to day operations of the District’s Transfer Center. The position acts as a liaison between universities and the District to provide transfer information and to students. The position also is responsible for developing and conducting workshops that will assist students in navigating the transfer process into four-year institutions as well as collaborating campus wide to further develop support services for students with transfer goals and objectives.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides information to students regarding transfer processes such as, but not limited to, university requirements to transfer, transcript deadlines, and the type of courses typically required for transfer to universities;
  • Work collaboratively with the Transfer Center Director;
  • Organizes in-person and virtual field trips to universities;
  • Develops methods to assess student needs in relation to transferring to universities and career exploration;
  • Recommends the development of programs and workshops;
  • Develops workshops, events, activities, and programs to assist students in applying for transfer into universities;
  • Meets with students to discuss transfer needs, major and career exploration, and to refer students to District resources that can provide support;
  • Conducts presentations, trainings, and workshops;
  • Conducts outreach activities as a representative of the Transfer Center;
  • Creates and maintains data resources to develop reports to make proposals and recommendations to improve transfer resources, assists in maintaining data to track student progress in meeting transfer goals and establishes detailed records of student participation for outreach and retention opportunities;
  • Updates the Transfer Center website and maintains online documentation on dates and timelines to increase transfer rates and transfer success;
  • Schedules visits from university representative to the District;
  • Schedule meetings for students, university representatives and events;
  • Markets departmental services on various platforms;
  • Coordinate multiple calendars internally, and the public calendar on the Transfer Center website;
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of the Colleges’ students, faculty, staff and community;
  • Effectively engage and support disproportionately impacted groups by addressing issues of equity and improving culturally responsive service-oriented practices;
  • Works in collaboration with the department on the Guided Pathways initiative and Student Equity and Achievement goals where it pertains to transfer success;
  • Train and provide work direction to student workers;
  • Communicate with other administrators, personnel and faculty to coordinate activities and programs, resolve transfer center related issues and conflicts and exchange information; support staff and faculty in providing success and student services information at a variety of on-campus locations;
  • Develops and maintains data on student progress in meeting goals for transfer;
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
 
Knowledge:
  • California Community College Transfer Guidelines;
  • Transfer guarantee programs, related opportunities and requirements to universities;
  • Eureka and other software to assist in basic transfer exploration data reporting software;
  • General financial aid information;
  • Community college matriculation processes;
  • Content Management Software;
  • Marketing strategies, including graphic flyers to post to online media;
  • General office software and equipment;
  • Application process and timelines associated with the transfer process;
  • Special programs related to transfer students and California universities.
Skills:
  • Apply knowledge of transfer requirements to advise students of various transfer deadlines and develop work shops around transferring topics such as, but not limited to, the processes for applying to specific universities, personnel statements, and District transfer days;
  • Use content management software to update the departmental website;
  • Use marketing strategies to promote workshops, programs, and support services;
  • Use knowledge of financial aid and community college matriculation processes to develop awareness of important deadlines as it relates to matriculation into universities;
  • Use general office software and equipment to develop work schedules, presentation materials, reports, aggregate data, organize events, and communicate with District staff.
Abilities:
  • Effectively use data to inform the development workshops, programs, and trainings;
  • Effectively maintain a valid class C Driver’s License;
  • Ensure that all communications and departmental services are sensitive to and exhibit an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students;
  • Develop and maintain collegiate relationships with District staff, faculty, the community and external agencies to develop student support services,
  • Assist student with resources to help them research universities independently
  • Organize departmental operations, and develop method to extract data and produce resource reports;
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination equivalent to: Any combination of a Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in a related field.
AND
Must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Has earned a BA/BS degree;
  • Valid California Class C driver's license.
Physical Characteristics
This position requires physical abilities needed to work in a standard office setting, including but not limited to: standing and/or sitting for prolonged periods; occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and twisting; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling light and moderate amounts of weight; operating office equipment which may require repeated fine motor skills (e.g.: keyboard use); and the ability to communicate in written and verbal forms. The position requires vision and hearing in normal ranges (with or without correction) sufficient to operate any assigned equipment and the ability to clearly communicate with others in written and verbal forms.
