Job Summary

The Harris-Stowe State Head Soccer Coach position is responsible for managing all aspects of the Men and Women’s Soccer program. The ideal candidate would lead student
athletes by example, coach athletic and academic excellence; modeling the NAIA Live 5. The Soccer coach is expected to build a program to championship status through development, supervising, The Head Soccer Coach is responsible for planning and directing the recruitment, conditioning, training, and performance of student athletes,
along with fiscal program management, for the Harris-Stowe State University Soccer Programs. This position reports to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. This is a professional head coaching position and all of the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of the NAIA, the America Midwest Conference and Harris-Stowe State University. Employees in this job class may be subject to the terms and conditions of an employment contract which is typically subject to review and renewal on an annual basis. This position directs two part-time Assistant Coaches in leading each team performance. 

 

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for all aspects of men and women’s soccer program operation and development, recruitment of prospective student-athletes, monitoring of
    student-athlete academic progress, organization and execution of practices and competitions for both the traditional (spring). 
  • Responsible for budget preparation, fund raising, travel arrangements, equipment distribution and inventory, scouting, strength and conditioning, off-season program, softball campus, overall administration of the program and duties assigned by the Director of Athletics in accordance with applicable rules and obligations of the Athletic Department, the University, AMC, and NAIA. 
  • Demonstrates effective organizational, supervisory, promotional, budget management and computer skills. 
  • The Head Coach will be a person of integrity, high ethical standards and exhibit a strict adherence to NAIA, the University, department rules and
    regulations with a commitment to student achievement in academics. 
  • Serve as Game Day Administrator and facilities monitor for Fall Sports 
  • Attends monthly staff meetings 
  • Recruit qualified student athletes for competition. 
  • Models and teaches NAIA Live 5; integrity, respect, responsibility, servant leadership, and sportsmanship 
  • Ability to monitor academic performance of student athletes. 
  • Coordinates camps for community visibility and fundraising. 
  • Develop and facilitate team academic and athletic rules for student athlete success. 
  • Other duties as assigned Supervisory Responsibilities. Promote philosophy of the athletic department and HSSU University.

 

Minimum Education and Experience 

Position requires Bachelor's degree, three years of successful Head Soccer coaching experience on the collegiate level. Position also requires extensive recruiting, coaching techniques and skills, camp coordination and facilitation, community service, teambuilding, and fundraising experience.  Field maintenance, NAIA eligibility and compliance
experience is preferred. 

 

Physical Requirements

  • Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly. 
  • Must have the physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height; and to bend, to stoop, to sit on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead.
