Job Description:

Reporting to the AVP and Dean of Student Success, the P/T Program Specialist will implement and oversee federally-mandated services that provide educational needs to the primary service population. The primary focus is on helping students re-engage in their learning following COVID-related disruptions. This is a short-term, part-time, grant-funded position that ends on May 31, 2024.

The P/T Program Specialist will be responsible for facilitating best practice needs of students with disabilities including oversight of assistive technology, implementation of training workshops, transition programs and proctoring. In addition, the P/T Program Specialist will help facilitate all aspects of the program from entry through graduation.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Monitors and supports students' progress and special needs during their academic tenure at WCC to ensure access and compliance with ADA mandates.
  • Where necessary, make referrals to both on and off-campus resources and community resources such as personal counseling, tutoring, career and transfer services, and other community resources.
  • Aid students with functioning skills and soft skills through workshops, weekly trainings, materials and helpful information.
  • Assists in compiling reports that document the support needs of students to ensure goals and outcomes are being met.
  • Helps maintain student support and records through the Accommodate platform.


Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in special education, rehabilitation, or another related field and at least 2 years working with students with disabilities. Demonstrated experience applying knowledge of the unique needs of individuals with disabilities, including knowledge of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and its amendments, and other relevant state and federal legislation. Proficiency in software systems including Microsoft Office applications is required.  The ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information; an ability to be flexible and adaptive to changing needs and priorities; a strong student-centered orientation; and an ability to work with a team of diverse faculty, staff and students are essential.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in special education, rehabilitation, higher education administration, or another related field. Bilingual verbal and written fluency strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience in post-secondary disability service provision. Demonstrated experience coordinating academic accommodations for students with disabilities. Experience using platforms  such as PeopleSoft, Degree Works, and Starfish is desirable. Experience with student support services, youth development or similar social service programs, and/or student advising experience; demonstrated intercultural competence and a continuing commitment to advance equity, inclusion, and social justice practices in support of the needs of underrepresented/racially minoritized student populations.


Additional Information:

POSITION EFFECTIVE:   The position will remain open until filled.

WORK SCHEDULE: The work schedule is Monday through Friday and occasional weekends. Hours are between 9 am and 7 pm. Weekly hours vary with a maximum of 28 hours a week, depending on the time of the year. This is an in-person, on-campus position.

HOURLY RATE OF PAY: $34.60/hour. No benefits. This position is fully grant funded.
