Job Summary:

The outreach coordinator/success coach will be responsible for promoting the Indian Hills Community College (IHCC) cybersecurity and systems administration associate of applied science (AAS) program to prospective students at area high schools, college fairs and community events, as well as providing individualized guidance and support to students already enrolled in the program. This person will assist program participants by: 1) helping identify and coordinate services for which students may be eligible (including WIOA co-enrollment, food stamps, health insurance, child care assistance and other state and federal benefits) in order to reduce the barriers many face in completing their credentials; 2) providing academic advising and frequent check-ins to ensure academic success, and assisting with any academic supports needed, such as tutoring or classroom accommodations; 3) assisting students in identifying financial resources to help pay for education and supportive services; and 4) helping connect students to work-based learning opportunities and job prospects. This position is funded by a three-year National Science Foundation Advanced Technological Education Project grant.

Minimum Job Requirements:


  • Associates degree required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Recruiting and/or student advising background desired. Experience at the community college level is preferred.
  • Must possess the ability to provide academic assistance and advising to students enrolled in technical programs.
  • Must demonstrate strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • A knowledge of or an aptitude to learn Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint will be needed.

Work Performed:


  • Provide academic advising and soft skills instruction as needed to cybersecurity and systems administration AAS students.
  • Provide one-on-one counsel to target program students facing non-academic barriers to completion and link them to resources on campus and in the community as needed.
  • Develop and utilize student advising forms and logs to track and report student interactions and services provided to the grant’s principal investigator.
  • Aid the principal investigator in the collection of student and project data for evaluation and tracking purposes.
  • Work with the principal investigator, co-principal investigators, Advanced Technology Center department heads, admissions staff and marketing staff to establish effective outreach activities and promotional materials to recruit participants into the cybersecurity
  • and systems administration AAS program,
  • Visit area and regional high schools to present information about career opportunities in cybersecurity and recruit prospective students.
  • Assist with promoting and hosting a rural-focused, on-campus Capture the Flag event for high school and college students.
  • Help direct prospective students to appropriate programs and services and aid them in the admissions process.
  • Coordinate with the Admissions Office to schedule campus visits for students interested in enrolling in the cybersecurity and systems administration AAS program.
  • Represent IHCC in a positive manner.
  • Work in conjunction with program instructors and the Career Services Office to link participants to work-based learning and employment opportunities.
  • Assist in the placement and follow up of target program graduates.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Employment Length:

4 Term, Full Time, Benefits

Schedule:
9 hours/day, Monday – Thursday

Salary Range:
$43,954.00 - 48,680.00
