Southampton Business School (SBS) is placed at the centre of the University of Southampton, a top 100 University in the world, ranked 78th (QS), and a founding member of the UK Russell Group Universities. SBS academics conduct cutting edge research and publish consistently in world-class journals. Research activity within SBS is coordinated through ten multidisciplinary research centres. Ranked in the top quartile of the research-intensive business schools in the UK, SBS has an ambitious growth plan, which includes investments in people and relocation to a state of art business building.

The Department of Decision Analytics and Risk is a large group of highly research active staff and PhD students. This department brings together internationally renowned academics who undertake research into, and teach, a wide range of areas including Management Science, Risk, Operations and Project Management, Knowledge Management and Information Systems, and has internationally-renowned expertise in areas such as risk management, Fintech and health care.

We are looking to further strengthen our expertise in the Information Systems & Business Analytics Section of the Department. The successful candidate will be expected to publish high quality research publications, to lead in grant applications and to contribute to contribute to the delivery of the MSc in Digital Strategy and Information Systems as well as to support the delivery of information systems course content taught on other programmes.

About you

You will have a PhD (or equivalent degree/professional qualifications and experience) related to Information Systems and an established track record of research publications at a minimum ABS 3* level (or equivalent standing), coupled with research grant activity. Whilst we are not seeking any specific specialism within the information systems discipline, candidates with interests in subject areas that complement those of the Section and the wider Department, such as (but not limited to) digital innovation and transformation, Fintech, artificial intelligence and data science applications in settings such as health management, online communities, digital business, etc., or those with expertise in systems thinking, would be particularly welcomed.

You will also demonstrate a strong interest in innovative approaches to teaching and be expected to provide research support (as appropriate) and mentoring to others in the group. You will act as a leader and ambassador for us across management and enterprise or other engagement activities.

Experience of teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels is essential, as is your ability to engage and inspire students and colleagues alike. Whether developing your own teaching approaches, acting as supervisor to your students or contributing to the effective administration of our department, you will enjoy scope to innovate and make a significant impact on teaching and research.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Professor Mario Brito, Head of Decision, Analytics and Risk: m.p.brito@soton.ac.uk.
