With numerous and diverse programs providing services to people experiencing homelessness, hunger, and poverty in Maine, Preble Street is a dynamic, innovative, and progressive nonprofit organization with nearly 300 staff who work every day to fulfill the agency’s mission. Preble Street’s highly collaborative HR team is seeking a Senior Director of HR with significant human resources experience and a social justice mission orientation to take on this key, hands-on, management role with leadership, management, and day-to-day operations responsibilities in all aspects of the HR function. The Senior Director of HR will work closely with and be supervised by the VP of HR, and will have opportunities for professional growth and learning while using their skills and experience to support the HR function and further the mission.

Requirements

This senior management role requires a solid foundation of HR experience, knowledge, and skills: significant, direct experience with progressive responsibilities in all or nearly all aspects of the full HR scope of responsibilities is essential for this position. Success in this role also requires strong organizational and management skills; a compliance-minded orientation; exceptional critical thinking skills; an understanding of Preble Street’s social justice mission and commitment to providing administrative services in support of the agency; and commitment to efforts and initiatives to further diversity, equity, and inclusion in our workforce and services.

Candidates with a combination of hands-on human resources work experience and relevant education and training likely to provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities to be successful in the position are encouraged to apply; among the preferred qualifications are relevant education (a graduate degree in business or law preferred); experience in human resources management and employee benefits administration; knowledge of U.S. and Maine employment and labor laws and regulations; staff supervision and management experience; SHRM certification; and social services/nonprofit experience.

The Senior Director of HR will work onsite during regular business hours, with some schedule flexibility and hybrid schedule options available. Please note that this is not a fully remote position.

Compensation

This full-time, salaried position offers competitive compensation with a range of $90,000 - $100,000, annualized, depending on qualifications. Generous paid time off, insurance, and retirement plan benefits include:

  • 4 weeks/160 hours (accrued) vacation time, 12 days/96 hours (accrued) sick time, 2 days/16 hours personal time, 12 paid holidays
  • Health insurance w/ 100% employer-paid option; dental insurance w/ 100% employer-paid option; vision insurance; employer-paid life and disability insurance
  • 403(b) retirement plan w/ employer match
